My CPU burned up and my mobo is acting up.

I'm planning on buying new ram, CPU, and mobo.

I'm pretty set on the q6600, but I'm looking for a good OC'ing mobo with fast ram maybe even ddr3.

I'm only looking to spend between 500-700, and the q6600 is 280 so that leaves 230-430 for mobo and ram.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Its not necessary to get the Q6600, you could geth the E6750 and save yourself $100. I dont see quad core being implemented to its full extent anytime soon.

My top choice mobo would be ABIT IP35 PRO. If your on a budget, get the GIGABYTE D3SL (or any other P35 GIGABYTE boards) or MSI NEO2 FR.

Ram.. you can get cheap pc 6400 (800 mhz) ram these days... crucial 2 x 1 gb with 4-4-4-12 timings is good.

If you're trully set on the Q6600, thats a good choice if you're not going to upgrade anytime soon. All the of the motherboards that hacker listed are pretty much always recommended here. Pick the one that fits your budget. If you can, order OCZ DDR2-800 ram from newegg for about $40. There are other brands that are sometimes better and cheaper, but I dont recall their names or where from.

Yeah I ended up picking that customer choice gigabyte board. I don't think I'm gonna OC the q6600 at first since my trusty old opteron finally bit it. I also got 4gb of OCZ ram 2x2gb.

Finally I bought Vista home premium retail. I'm wondering if I can kind of "upgrade" my current OS with it (which is vista 64bit ultimate OEM).

EDIT: um yeah I hope my level gets put back at 20, don't why it says its back to 1 all of sudden...
