I hear you don't have to pay monthly fees and... well... no, that's it.
No, it's not! Fooled ya! Never played, but I hear the level cap is 20 and it's pretty easy to obtain so as to even things out between players, the focus is on skills and gathering and training the best ones. Also, getting into a guild and having guild wars might be worth considering! Just putting it out there.
Come on, man, just pick it up and find out for yourself. Or read the gamespot review, that helps tons, too.
i bought guild wars a long time ago, but i never really got to into it. i was pretty bored with it. i have more fun and can spend more time playing diablo 2, and thats super old. so tell me, whats so great about guild warS?_KwispYPlay it and you will see. I like Diablo 2 also, but it sure aint no Guild Wars.
I can't make you like anything. The Guild Wars series is simply the best...groundbreaking gameplay and GW2 will be a Wow killer.
Anet is the future..
I think of it as a poor man's online RPG. I just can't play a game like Guild Wars after playing a fully featured online RPG, like a MMO.GlenQuagmire
I disagree. After being fed up with WoW, Guild Wars was a welcome and refreshing change to me. Some of its advantages over other MMOs are the superior graphics (WoW is hiding being a more comic-like look, but even that could be better) and computer-controlled party members (if you wish to recruit them) that will help you through harder quests if you can't find any "real" party members - or just want to play alone for a while.
I'll tell ya like this I bought guild wars about a year ago and I tried it an hated it but because I was so lost and didn't have ventrilo. Now I'm loving it after playing silkroad for like a year I had decided to ask a friend if he could teach me how to play because I knew he had been playing for six months plus. After we went through the first few missions I went out an bought both factions and night fall and I love it. For me to just break out the cash without even thinking about it is a big deal considering like 5 hours before that I hated the game. My advice is to hop in and try to find a guild with ventilo and all that and it will make the game that much more exciting. I also pre ordered the new expansion eye of the north I'm extremely excited about that. Its like 5 of us playing it in my vent now and we are all building up right now an just starting a guild so its crazy fun lots to do and prime evil to get for my Dervish XD.

Nothing is going to make you like or dislike something. It's based on your own personal taste.Â

with out mounts lol I don't think so wow is far better than gw. I agree that gw is poor man's game.
The thing that makes guild wars hard to get into is later on when you have to do those 30min-1hour missions. It's really annoying when you die and have to do the whole mission over again.
Â
After that thought the game gets really fun. I'm not hear to make you like guild wars, I'm just voicing my opinion on the game. Personally I hate it when people that make these "make me like this game" threads.Â
This is my favorite game ever! And I have played alot of games.
IÂ can't make you like Guild Wars, but its a shame if you dont give it a fair chance. But hey, everyone is different, so maybe its just not for you, although that would make you a weirdo! :)
All I can say is that I am so glad I gave Guild Wars a try.
I can't wait for Eye Of The North and Guild Wars 2 later in 2008.
Meh, a lot of people like it so I feel I need to acknowledge it as a good game, but I see it as nothing more than a poor-man's WoW. Now, anyone who can play Guild Wars can afford WoW imo (pc gaming isnt a cheap hobby, after all) so people play Guild Wars out of principle I think. They say "15 dollars a month? Outrage, I say! I really really want to play WoW but a monthly fee is bad!"
PvE is extremely boring, and the 20 level cap severely hamstrings its longevity. You can make two or three characters and beat the game with each of them taking less than a couple weeks.
Graphics are extremely bland. Yes, theyre clean but enemies look lame and frankly no single character in the game looks like they could kick the crap out of anyone. I will take the technically inferior yet artisticly superior graphics of WoW any day.
You think grinding for items is bad in WoW? What about grinding for skills in Guild Wars? Thats just as stupid. Its like "sweet, I can make a level 20 character right away so no need to play the PvE content...oh, wait, I gotta go trudge through the campaign to unlock the big skills *sigh*"
Seems the only redeemable quality of Guild Wars imo is the PvP content. And for my money (well, no money actually) I would rather blast some people on CS if I want to "PvP".
There's no reason to like it. It's crap. The story is bland. The music is bad. The combat gets old fast. There's nothing to collect. PvP gets stale fast. The PvE is mind numbingly boring. $50 expansions. There are no levels to achieve. The game is awful. It's NOT an mmo. I give it a 5.0 out of 10 only because the graphics are mildly good. Worst $50 I ever spent. And to think I preordered it back in the day. What a fool I was.NocturnalDemoncause u didnt give it a chance

I love GW, but what you have just stated is my biggest beef with the game. I was outraged when I got it at launch and discovered that. Thankfully Arena.net listened to its players and realized what a god awful mistake they had made and remedied it by releasing the PVP editions for each campaign. These versions have no PVE. They come with all the skills and armors and upgrades and so forth already unlocked so you can just make a pvp character with whatever you want and then jump right into the fray. Though, this does really scew over people like myself who bought the original releases for the three campaigns, but at the same time I am glad they did it for those people who just want to PVP.

I played it for a month. I got a level 20 Necro/Mo. I beat the game. I honestly tried to like it. But it is CRAP. Even as bad as WoW is, it's still better than Guild Wars by a mile.
GW is an acquired taste. It's pvp is not for everyone and the only one of the three games with a descent pve campaign is nightfall. Factions is god awful in practically every sense, and the original is only ok at best in terms of pve.Cerzalol are you kiddy me? I mean yea Nightfall has some good PvE, but it sure aint no Prophecies. Most people (me included) feel that Prophecies is the best for PvE. And Factions wasn't aimed at PvE, it was made for PvP, and that part it did well. Alliance Battles is alot of fun (when your not stuck playing with hardheaded noobs).

lol you two trip me out. A poor mans game. Why, because there is no monthly fee? please get a clue. If thats the reason, then most games out there is a poor mans game. Another thing, if it was a poor mans game, it would be on a console and not a PC. After all, consoles are alot cheaper. You two fail. The lack of monthly fees is a huge attraction to the Guild Wars games, and don't deny that it isn't.  The reason I refer to it as a poor man's online RPG is because the gameplay is as shallow, bland, and featureless as any online RPG I have ever played. You're lying to yourself if you believe that Guild Wars is better than a fully-featured MMO. I believe by spending $15 a month that you can have an exponentially better gameplay experience with a true MMO than a game like Guild Wars.
You get what you pay for; in most cases.
lol grinding for skills. What are you smoking man? Most of your skills, you will buy. No grinding needed. The only skills you have to actually go out and get are the elite skills. You have to kill a boss to get them. But all other skills you buy, not grind for. Sorry you are so misinformed about GW. And the lvl 20 cap doesn't hamper anything. The game was never about lvls. You act as if once you reach lvl 20, thats it. The graphics are bland lol, yet you think WOW's graphics are good.......LMFAO Personnally I think WOW's graphics look like crap. I like a bit more realistic looking graphics than the cartoon that is WOW. And if you make a lvl 20 PvP char, you don't have to do nothing in the PvE part to get the skills, even the elites. You have to earn faction (by PvPing) to buy those skills with. So the more you PvP (which is the only reason you make a lvl 20 PvP char for in the first place), the more faction you earn, which means more skills you can buy. Man you REALLY are misinformed about GW aren't you? Sheeesh. Sorry, but I can't just sit here and let people bash GW when it is so obvious from their post that they haven't even played the game.Meh, a lot of people like it so I feel I need to acknowledge it as a good game, but I see it as nothing more than a poor-man's WoW. I am not misinformed, I just didnt think Guild Wars was worth more than three weeks of my time. I bought the original game when it came out, played it for three weeks, and said "Well, I dont like and here is why..." so I stoped playing it. If you want to say I didnt give it a chance, fine (though I disagree because a game shouldnt take more than 3 hours to enjoy let alone 3 weeks) but I am not misinformed.
And another thing; I just dont like PvP in my RPGs, so that is problably 99% of the reason for my distaste for the game.
As for the rest, its all opinion and I dont want to argue about that.
i got no problems with people not getting into games, i didn't get into WoW at all i got to like lvl 10 and then a canacelled my account and threw out the cd. their are some good and bad parts to every game (yes even Gears o War, Halo, and super smash brothers have their problems). as for Gw heres a list of good and bad pointstoo the game (i play it so i know what im talking about (in most cases).
pro's - the game environments are possibly the most beautiful things on the market with lush environments and wind effects ranged attacks (though wind direction and speed are not clearly defined). Their is always something to do: after you beat the game you will always have some item upgrades to unlock, armor upgrades to unlock, titles to obtain, and places to find. the cap is low to create more competition: first of all i am tired of ppl **** about the low lvl cap, yes you can get it rather fast but its ment to be that way so you dont have lvl 40-60 char's running ppl through a game in an hour b/c their untouchable by everything that breaths. so they cut the cap to make it more team oriented. Thats why its called guild wars..not solo wars. The new expansions and custoimization of character's are very numerous: you can change everything from armor stas and color to weapon stats and color. anyone can have a pet (a minor plus and wether or not they do anything other than follow you around is another matter). skill bar is cut down to 8 skills (this basically forces you to use the 8 more effectively and in a more focused manor rather than having 10-20 skills you can use at any given time to lay waste to everything in plain sight).
con's- game is not ment for the hardcore MMo players mainly because its not an MMO its a CORPG any hardcore can finish a campaign form a week to a month(varies on campaign and skill). sounds tend to get bothersome after a while (imo). ai can be very stupid, cheap, or glitchy at times (but what rpg or mmo doesn't have that problem). armor is essentially without choice (in terms of look) early on. everything that is worth having usually costs a lot of time and/or cash. (their are 75k armor sets for christ sake). MPK is not possible (if that's really what you look for in an online game).
thats about it for pro's and con's their is probably a few i missed and they probably have already beeen mentioned (or will be). so thats Guild wars in a nut shell. Hope this helps
