since you bought a disc format, you get to keep it until you die, but if I'm correct, EA Store only lets you keep it for couple years. and then you lose your ownership.

That is incorrect if you buy from the EA store you do not "lose ownership" of the game. But then it could be argued you don't get ownership for any game you buy be it DD or retail. You pay for a licence to PLAY the game not own it. The problem with the EA store is that you can only download your purchased game for 3 months (unless you pay for additional cover). After the 3 months is up you will still be able to play your game perfectly fine with no problem. However should you lose the downloaded files then you will not be able to download the game again. Therefore if you are going to use EA it is essential you back up the files you download.

No it isn't illegal to burn the downloaded files from the EA store to a DVD. You can even burn the files to several DVD's if you want just to be on the safe side. The files you download from the EA store are linked to your EA account so only you can use them anyway. So it is perfectly legitimate to backup these files to DVD and actively encouraged since after 3 months you won't be able to download those files again.

There is some info in this thread that isnt the complete truth. If you buy something on the EA Store (or retail disc as well), you can "register" your game with the EA Download Manager program. That program has no limits for how long you can download, install, or play any games you have registered with it. I have every single EA game I bought registered with it. Actually, i didnt even insert my retail Mass Effect 2 DVD ever into my computer, i just downloaded it straight from the Manager.Kinda nice since I never have to insert discs to play my EA games.

Short version: Its true that the EA store itself has time limits for downloads, but the Download Manager doesnt.
