I am wondering if it really is worth it to do this?

I played and beat ME 1 on 360, but I want to get ME2 on pc.. (for obvious reasons) so my 360 save file will not work, and I don't even know if I still have it lol..I was wondering if the story really is any better when you carry on your character.

I don't exactly remember if I chose The girl or the guy to die.. I remember I saved Wrex. I had the lesbian alien scene...

I remember beating the game, and the story..

So my question is would I really be missing anything if I started from Scratch with ME2 instead of trying to locate a save file online that resembles kinda the one I did, while having some crappy name?

I mean to ask is the game substantially different if you carry over your save game from the first?

You dont miss out on much. I think you start a level or two higher and with a little bit of money. I didn't think they game was difficult at all though and there still is the same level cap for every player. You also get a couple of old characters you run into that might have a few different lines of dialogue based on choices you made.

Also, keep in mind that the majority of the main characters of ME1 are not even present in ME2.

I played through it with an import file, but based on what I have read and seen, the "extras" I got are extremely minor.

Overall, you wouldn't be missing much. However, if you start from scratch, you probably won't like the choices made if you played as a paragon in the first game. Bioware kinda made the scratch Shepard a jerk with what he chose.

Just download a save file that did the same things you did.

I did this for ME2 as I also beat ME1 on xbox and not PC.

There is a website dedicated to just ME1 save files.

I just think I'll start from scratch... I don't care how it starts (on what side I am) as long as I can go full Paragon or ("evil") forgot what they called it.

The difficulty was never an issue actually, hardly ever is.

Thx for the replies.

The default storylines for ME 2 if you don't import a save game are extremely crappy, you really are doing yourself and the game a disservice by just playing the default storyline. It is incredibly easy to find a PC ME 1 save that you can import into the game and it will give you a much more satisfying experience. You can easily find a save game here :-

http://www.masseffectsaves.com/

Really I cannot stress enough how much better ME 2 is if you use the save game import and tailor the game to the decisions you made in ME 1.

Better still why not buy the PC version of Mass Effect 1 ? At the moment it is going dirt cheap on steam at £2.50. You might even be surprised at how much better ME 1 is on the PC but either way don't just play the vanilla storyline for ME 2 it will weaken the whole story for yourself.

Yes, you get more money and minerals if you for instance played through ME1 twice and reached Level 60.

One other thing, ME2 actually checks for literally hundreds of decisions in your saved game. Hundreds decisions link.

Excerpt - Hudson went on to note that even minor decisions made in Mass Effect will impact events in Mass Effect 2. "It's not just what your ending was, or a couple of the big choices, you know, where we could have stuck a conversation at the beginning and asked you what you did and moved on," he continued. "This is literally hundreds of things."

So in Essence its better to play mass Effect all the way through again? Might as well to get the full experience? (importing only covers some of the big choices)

I already own it on pc as well, I don't own the second one yet.. (its on sale, but will probably go on sale again before I beat the first one again)

But I guess I can just play through the first again, it was a good game!. (on my girls rig, and just move the completed save file over to my rig)

Anyway I think I might just worry about playing through it again on her rig, before I get the second. Thanks all.

Yes it is, especially if you reach Level 60 in ME1.

There is also a website that hosts ME saves.

BTW, import from the in-game screen, not the configuration utility. If you use the latter, it deletes saves, achievements, everything.

If you import a save game, do you still choose how your character will look? Or am I stuck with whatever character someone made in ME1 (from that website that hosts the saves)?
