I'm personally not thrilled about it, just hope it wont effect the campaign.

BUTTT WAI EA? Mass Effect was one of the only good single player series left. Not every game needs multiplayer.
Multiplayer in Mass Effect could end up being truly epic, so I will withhold judgement until I actually play the game.
The Mass Effect games are not games that I will play more than once (due to the story, and how my decisions have shaped it), so I really like the idea of being able to continue playing the game (through multiplayer) even after the trilogy has been completed.
every game needz dah multiplayer now yo  my respect for bioware has gone even lower, never thought that could happen after the crapfest that was da2
How can a linear scripted pop-a-mole shooter be designed to have truly epic multiplayer? The only thing I could see it have any level of success on without a radical redesign of gameplay is co-op, and even then it's still just one person playing the game with a couple of others simply being their wingmen. I really don't see how multiplayer can work with the Mass Effect design.Multiplayer in Mass Effect could end up being truly epic, so I will withhold judgement until I actually play the game.

As a huge Mass Effect fan I can certainly say that this news just makes me shake my head in despair. Now normally it wouldn't be a deal breaker, when I buy a single player game that has MP shoe horned in I just ignore MP. The problem with this announcement is that it makes it nearly 100% certain that Mass Effect 3 will use EA Origin. I definitely do have a problem with ME 3 using Origin and that is a deal breaker.
im gonna miss you good old bioware, say hello to crappy bioware, as i said when people told me "da 2 is just a game, they can fail once in a while" no, its the retarded direction they are taking
Could be awesome...could be terrible. I am leaning towards terrible lol. We dont know exactly what it is yet right?
Why does the current market need multiplayer on EVERYTHING? I like my experiences to be personal if I'm playing a game that is supposed to be story-driven. I didn't like it in STALKER and I sure don't like it here because it takes resources away from the main point of the game.

I'm pretty sure it leaked a few months ago that Mass Effect 3 will require Origin and not be sold on Steam. I'm holding out in case Valve can make an agreement to get it on Steam, but I don't have much hope.

No it wasn't, the Digital Deluxe Edition is exclusive to Origin in that you can only buy it from Origin. You can buy Mass Effect 3 the standard edition from a number of digital retailers (just not steam) and you can buy the retail collectors edition. The question is, whether Mass Effect 3 (no matter where you buy it from) will require Origin to run ? This has not been officially answered yet although there are rumours suggesting that you will have to have Origin running to play Mass Effect 3.
I didn't like how they made it more of a shooter and less a RPG with the sequel and I have to agree that not every game needs multiplayer. I just hope it doesn't affect the single player experience.
[QUOTE="ArchonOver"]No need to jump to the conclusion that the single player will be instantly bad because of this newsBUTTT WAI EA? Mass Effect was one of the only good single player series left. Not every game needs multiplayer.

it won't be as good as if they didn't waste time effort and money in multiplayer because all dem games needs to have da multiplaya
So instead of spending their resources making the single-player campaign even better, they will use time, money, and man-power to work on an unnecessary multiplayer component? Damn. I'll hold my judgement but this can't be good. I can't even imagine the MP being half decent.
Edit: So this explains the push to early 2012 release. They needed more time for MULTIPLAYER (now that it's confirmed and all). :)
Details, straight from the horse's mouth:
Join your friends in the all-out galactic war to take Earth back. The universe of Mass Effect expands with the addition of new co-op multiplayer missions, playable over Xbox Live, PSN and PC internet. Players can choose from a variety of ****s and races, form an elite Special Forces squad, and combine their weapons, powers and abilities to devastating effect as they fight together to liberate key territories from enemy control. Success in multi-player will have a direct impact on the outcome of the single player campaign, giving players an alternative method of achieving ultimate victory against the greatest threat mankind – and the entire galaxy – has ever faced.
Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War
As a bonus to the campaign, BioWare is introducing the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system, a new way for players to manage and experience the galactic war from multiple fronts, including a new 4-player co-op mode. The key to saving the galaxy is the "Galactic Readiness" level, measured by Commander Shepard's ability to apply
every possible asset – people, weapons, resources, armies, fleets – in the final battle against the Reapers. Players can impact their game's Galactic Readiness level in multiple ways via the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system, including multiplayer. Other platforms and interfaces will be announced in the coming months. It is important to note that the system is entirely optional and just another way players can have control over your game experience – it is still possible to achieve the optimal, complete ending of the game in Mass Effect 3 through single-player alone.
F.A.Q.
Why include 4 player Co-op multiplayer in Mass Effect 3?
Why only 4 player co-op? What not a versus mode?
Why did you decide not to include it as a part of the main campaign?
Does the addition of co-op multiplayer missions impact the scope or quality of the single-player experience?
How did developing multiplayer impact the single player game?
Which characters can I play in co-op multiplayer? Can I play as Commander Shepard?
What if I don't like multiplayer – will my experience be negatively impacted?
What if I am not good at / do not like multiplayer? Will my readiness rating go down?
Will you be adding any additional maps or modes through DLC?
Do save games from ME1 or ME2 impact the co-op multiplayer missions?
Do characters level up in co-op multiplayer? What is the progression system?
Is there more info about the other platforms of Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War?
[QUOTE="Swiftstrike5"]I would have preferred co-op...Code135
But then people will argue who is gonna be the krogan :?
It is co-op. Krogan are playable... :P[QUOTE="ArchonOver"]No need to jump to the conclusion that the single player will be instantly bad because of this newsBUTTT WAI EA? Mass Effect was one of the only good single player series left. Not every game needs multiplayer.

True - Bioware's best RPG had online co-op, and it didn't hurt the singleplayer at all.
Then again, this doesn't sound like co-op. It sounds like a tacked-on multiplayer game...thing?
dammit.
RPG = single-player
hoping bioware solely focuses on the epic single-player experience and tacks on some terrible arena multi-player at the end of development to make EA happy. once they see how terrible it is, they'll never ask again.
hopefully.

This pretty much does a 360* spin to this whole thread lol. NO competitive multiplayer. Co-op multiplayer only. Well, there you go... all in a little nutshell. Now, boyz, no more crying. :) Also in that article, you have the option for other players to impact your game. That's very ambitious. I'm interested to see how this turns out. Thank you CheeseMan for clearing the air.I would suggest everyone read this article: http://pc.ign.com/articles/119/1199464p1.html
