I would not recommend this game until this bug is fixed.

What overheating bug? I don't own the game, so I would appreciate you enlightening me.BlueBirdTS
Its a bug that wont allow your weapon to cool off when your gun overheats.. the thing is this bug was also in the original ME for the 360 too.
 That's a major bug. How did they not fix it for the PC version?BlueBirdTS
It's not that big of a deal. It happened to me about 10 times during my playthrough , just save and reload and it's gone
I've played through the game twice, and didn't experience that bug.
Actually, no, I remember that one of my weapons wasn't cooling down against the final boss, but I assumed that that was just the result of one of his attacks. It cooled down 20-30 seconds later.
. On the Normandy, approaching several characters for conversation forces you to reload because no conversation starts and you're stuck staring at them with nothing to interact with and no way to cancel. Qixote
You can get around this by pressing the "use" button "E" instead of enter. Same bug occurs with elevators from time to time.

happened about 10 times on my playthrough on the 360, coincidence?...

I play as an Infiltrator, I only have the use of the pistol and sniper rifle. The assault rifle and shotgun are useless to me. When my pistol overheats and won't cool down, it happens often, I must go to a safe place with no enemies present to save the game, then shut down and restart the game. Unacceptable, the game is broken and should be fixed.
You guys sure it's not an enemy using Overload or something like that on you ?
OgreB
Sometimes people mistake it for that but in the overheating bar it will say overload. This is not the case.
Ya it does mess up the fun, but really it's not to worry about. Ya I've had that around 20 times during my time through this game, but all you need is to save, and load the game again. Neo_Zeon
You cannot save when enemies are near. It always happens in battle. You must backtrack to a safe place to save.
It completely ruins what is otherwise a great game.
I had the game freeze on me once but the rest was smooth sailing. I guess I got luckyeggdog1234
same, and my PC is loaded with all kinds of bugs. It needs a good defrag.

I would imagine that some people may occasionally prematurely assume it's the bug if they are impatient when in reality it is an enemy using overload (which doesn't seem to happen too often). However, this is definitely a bug in the game. I happened to me 1 or 2 times when I played it on 360 and I played through the game 2.5 times. It would overheat and I'd wait like 2 minutes and it would just never cool down. It really sux when it happens since you have to reload.

defrag very very rarely does anything

Yeah, that is only going to put file clusters for your files physically nearer other file clusters for the same file. So, in other words when your game goes to get a file off your hard disk, it will take less time because all the pieces of the file will be all in one area on disk. However, a good game running on a good pc should not have many hard disk accesses during play. So, it could help initial load times I suppose...
If the game is running slow for you, you could always throw the computer in your pool and get a new one... :)
i had the overheating bug happen once, i just switched to my shotgun and finished off the boss and watched the credits :P
the bug that kept happening to me was i would get on an elevator and get stuck, the elevator door wouldt close and me and my party would be frozen in place, i just started quick saveing before i hoped onto any elevator

my bad, i meant reformat.
now that is a cure-all if ever there was one!
Only happend on the final boss for me... I thought it was intentional because pistol didn't seem to overheat. Swiftstrike5
Lol, me too. I had to kill him off with Biotics, which btw took me about an hour.
Excuse me...
I'm having trouble accessing map at Normandy(my ship)..
the thing is..every time i press E to access the map, it stuck..it shows "Widow" at top left screen..but there's no galaxy.. when i press Escape or clicking the right mouse button, the map/galaxy wud appear for a sec then its gone.. three times i click/press escape it brings me back to the ship..i cant pick any galaxy to proceed for the next mission/assigment.
Im running on windows XP Professional,
Anyone having trouble same as me?
I'm new to this forum and haven't really figured out how to search it properly (i.e. so I can search for stuff "Specifically" about Mass Effect).
However, I have a question regarding an aparent Bug.
I have tried to open the Galaxy Map on my ship (the first ship you get IF there are others).
Every time I try to open the Map, my computer seems to lock-up with a Black Screen that shows a tag saying "Widow" which I think is a nova or planet or something of the sort. BUT the map doesn't get any further than this black screen and label.
I have 4 gig's RAM on a Quad Core using dual SLI Geforce 8800's so I know that I have more than enough balls to play this game smoothly. It must be a game bug.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue ?
Thanks in advance.
Out of all those buggs the only one I have encountered was the elevator freezing one but it only happened once on the planet with Benesia. Another glitch I find more anoying is that when I hold down the pistol trigger it doesn't stop until it overheats.
I wouldn't know but with the overheating issue does changing your weapon help? (e.g. changing a shotgun for a different shotgun not just switching to pistol etc)
As for the overheating bug (it does exist...mainly with some video cards it doesn't allow the fan to speed up and the card eventually shuts down), there is an easy enough work around. Just download RivaTuner or similar software and override your GPU fan controller. You can create a profile that will bump the speed up as you hit certain core temps. Once I did that ME never crashed again. Its unfortunate that to this day is is a bug that survives, but its not a game killer.
The bug primarily affects nvidia cards, but its been noted on some ati cards.
I was taking about a bug that causes your gpu to overheat causing the game to crash. I'm guessing there was another "overheat" bug i don't know about?IIRC this was a bug caused by getting the Geth Achievement in the game. It didn't happen until you got it, then when a weapon overheats it doesn't cool down unless you reload. I am hopeful that they will fix this bug with the new patch that's coming.

Yes. Weapons don't cool down when they overheat. The general concensus on the official ME forums is that it's caused by getting the "Geth Hunter" medal, but noone knows why. =/
