Mass Effect or Star Wars KOTOR?

I've always been a huge fan of RPGs but I've never gotten around to playing these two titles for some reason, maybe it's because they both have a space theme. However, I'm ready to try one of them now, but I only want to play one at a time. So the question isn't really which should I get but which should I get FIRST and please don't say both, I like to go one game at a time. Note that I have no problem for going from a good looking game to a bad looking one.

They're pretty similar, but KOTOR has way more rpg elements than the Mass effect series. I'd say that they're both great games, but KOTOR is a little better.

Mass Effect easily. It's a much better game and in all honesty KOTOR feels pretty dated these days.

Honestly I prefer KOTOR. Its like the best RPG storyline I have played or one of them I loved it. Haven't played kotor2 but gonna buy it this week :)gunmaster55555

the characters in ME always felt a little bland compared to KOTOR and I liked how much more conversations there were in KOTOR compared to ME and i think the planets were done better than in ME. The customiztion is better and there's more variety in my opinion than in ME.

MEs (1 and 2) are better than both KOTORs in every possible way, except maybe for the RPG elements. MEs have far better story, far better gameplay, far more memorable characters (with one exception, we all know who i'm talking about), and of course way better graphics.

BioWare did an excellent job with the cinematics in ME1 - who would have imagined such quality when the cinematics are all in-engine?:o

Knights of the Old Republic is a fantastic game and I sort of have an attachment to it because it's one of the first 'great' RPG's I've been impressed with. KotOR 2 is quite good too, but some of the levels are very bland and repetitive.

They are both exceptional games. KOTOR holds a special place in my heart due to it being the first really nice RPG that I'd played. Mass Effect followed shortly after.

Personally I think comparing them is a fruitless task because they are very different games, despite, as you say, being set in space. Play both, is the obvious suggestion. As to which one you should play first, I would say KOTOR. Going from old to new is easier than going from new to old.

Oh and btw, just don't get the Witcher.
