Theyre both good games to be honest, but I prefer The Witcher.
Mass effect is more of a RP "lite" of real roleplaying games, its good, and fairly simple, but if you allready playied Kotor then skip this one.
The Witcher has a deep storyline, and is an Old School Rpg, some people dislike the combat, and the opening chapter is pretty "meh" but it picks up the pace fast, and ends up bieng a both rewarding and amuzing game.
The story is much better in The Witcher, and different choices comes back to haunt you, and is more origonal, wheres mass Effect is pretty much a cookie cutter Rpg, but a really well made one.

I havent play the witcher but mass effect is definitely worth getting. Is not exactly the definition of RPG rather than a Shooter with rpg elements. But still the story ( the main story that is ) is amazing the visuals great and the whole presentation is top notch.
But there are a couple of downsides like the side quests are all the same and they get boring after a while also you cant explore much without geing bored since the planets all look alike ( there are 5,6 diefferent styles and thats all ) and finally in the pc vesrion there are alot of bugs ( nothing serious though but they get a bit annoying )

Nicely put. I definitely agree. But I still say both, because I LOVE.. WRPGs. 8)
I have played and completed Mass Effect several times and I would say get The Witcher: EE. You see, as mentioned before, Mass Effect is a shallow RPG. In fact, its a very shallow RPG. Usually I considered RPGs to have buckets of replayability and variety, but Mass Effect just proved to be a massive disapointment in that respect. Interaction is fairly pathetic between people UNLESS you are supposed to actually speak to them. My example: In Kotor you could speak to an old man, a random old man, and you can chat all day long and eventually he will give you a quest. In Mass Effect, you cannot speak to anyone apart from main mission special characters. The world is horribly static and, may I say, bland. Exploration is on the light side too, where the explorable planets are a joke, seriously. Replayability is fairly low, because you are forced to perform these ridiculously dull missions until the game kicks into motion, which just caused me to lose any interest rather quickly near the third playthrough.
The Witcher seemed like an excellent premise with goddamn awful execution. The Enhanced Edition has pretty much ironed out any negatives and frankly, it should prove to be an exciting title - one I'm considering even now. Play Mass Effect for its main quest and nothing else (there isn't much else apart from perhaps 1 interesting side quest) or play The Witcher for its main quest AND its seemingly hilarious and interesting diversities. It's a no brainer if you consider my opinion in full.
From me, it's The Witcher: EE, Mass Effect is good for the CGI and mind blowing action, but it fails to impress after a second playthrough.

+1 for Mass Effect here. Beautiful game; and I mean everything, not just graphics. Begemott
yeah same here, it had a mood and atmosphere (mainly fueled by artistic design and the music composed for the game) not to mention the story and emotion of the game(which was also fueled by artistic design and music)Â
it was a great game, and here is some great news if you dont already know, mass effect is set to be a trilogy.
I personally wouldn't waste the money on Mass Effect. I got it hoping it would be on par with KOTOR only to find it was a shallow RPG with poor combat. I don't even have a reason to play the game again because I think I saw everything there was the first time through. The game is presented really well but everything else falls short.

My vote goes towards The Witcher.Â
It depends what you are looking for:
A tactical shooter with some RPG elements but a superb cinematic style. (Mass Effect)
Or a more traditional RPG but with some technical issues. (Witcher)
Both games are great. And you can't really go wrong with either.Â

This thread just makes me realize how behind I am in the RPG space. I have yet to play ME, The Witcher, or Fallout 3!
I am looking for a good single player game to go along with Left 4 Dead. I have seen a lot of positive response for both the Witcher:EE and Mass Effect. For those who have played both, if you had to choose only one..which would it be?Savareth
I would go with The Witcher if you are looking for a good Action RPG. Mass Effect is an Action RPG as well but it is really short, it's a good game, but just not on the same level as The Witcher
