Take better care of your CDs :)

You can find patches, but I am not going to discuss that because GS is paranoid when it comes to these things.

i try to take care of them but when you've installed the game on about 50+ times it tends to get scratched. I have stuff for it but it diddnt help. Neither did toothpaste.

Take it to the local game store, They have a machine for cleaning disks, if they cant get the scratches out nothing can. Its a buffer they have for used games.

What you can do in these types of situations is get a virtual drive such as Daemon Tools Lite and make an ISO of the disc itself. I believe if you have a physical copy of the disc itself, this isn't illegal, but you need to have both on hand for that purpose. This would take up a couple gigs on the computer or other HD, but with an external HDD or whatever medium you have this installed on it will use that ISO and virtual drive to load from.

That wasn't what I was asking. That was the reason I asked. If she installed it 50 times without trying to contact Bioware for help then I can only assume she thought " On I've tried it 30 times now but this time, on this install it will magically work"

It has installed 50+ times, just the computer was not good enough to run it.

Am I the only one who doubts that it's a disk scratching issue?

My Brood War disk has more lines on it than all of my high school books combined, and it still works.

Besides, if it was a disk scratching issue, wouldn't the problem appear during installation, when the disk is actually read, rather than during gameplay, when the disk is not used at all after the copy protection check when the game is launched?

This is why I use Steam for my PC games.
There's not much you can do besides the obvious.

Okay let me try this again, How you contacted Bioware, either by phone or E-mail, explained to them what your problem is and recieved help, which didn't work, or have you not?

I'd recommend that you try to clean the disk, preferably in a store like Gamestop and then contact Bioware for help. Mostly because the developer tends to know their games and how to make them work better then others, most of the time. Hopefully it's isn't scratched up too bad so it's ruined.

So it installs, what happens when you try to play it? Does it have any error messages?

freetoex

No error messages. All it does it pause when the pointy thing with the spining circle is up...

Thing is I CAN PLAY THE DEMO and it really is annoying that my $60 game is messed up

You have this bad luck because you really need to take care of your CDs. Using a CD should not scratch it, either you have a dirty CD drive, or you just misplaced the CD.

I wouldn't be so sure that it is a problem with your disk. Pretty convenient that it stops working just as you try it out on a new machine.

Can you provide the spec of your computer?

Browsing the Bioware forums, there appears to be a large contigent of people with single core AMD processors that happen to have the same loading screen freezing issue that you have.

OK. According to the release notes for the v1.01 patch, they fixed some issues with single core CPUs. So, you can cross your fingers.

Don't know what to tell you. If your processor is a dual core, it could be a graphics driver causing the problem.

If it's a single core, there have been some attempts at fixes ->http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/905917/1

Seems the .bik files playing during the loading screens cause problems for some users. They suggest replacing them with blank .bik files.

Sounds like a messy process, and might be more trouble than it's worth.

Download EA Download manager, you can register your Mass Effect 2 CD Code on the program and it will allow you to download the latest version of the game itself :)

Only downside of this EA Download Manager is that it need to be running in order for you to play your games, I don't know if it needs internet connection though, if it doesn't , shouldn't be a problem.
