Hey guys, so you have probably seen me ask previously about building a computer, and I want to thank SnapTrap and Overclocked for their help in explaining parts and what goes with what. Now, with their suggestions I have tried to build a PC (Or select the parts). I would just like someone to check over the parts before I go ahead and order my first PC :) So, here is the list Intel Core i5 2500KSeagate Barracuda 500GB HDD ASUS Radeon HD 6850 8GB RamASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 MotherboardCoolerMaster Centurion 5 II with 500W Thanks for the help

It seems pretty solid. Though i'd make sure that power supply can handle all that, namely the cpu and gpu.

its not fine. your pissing money away on a motherboard when something costing £60 would do exactly the same job that you need it for. you should save $70 on your mobo, go for something like a gigabyte z68p-ud3 or, from the same site the asrock z68m and spend that $70 on a small ssd or a better graphics card

also you are cutting it fine with your psu. no one could say for sure that 500w will be enough to power your pc. if your going to spend $100 on a case and psu, i would spend 40 on the case and 60 on the psu, getting a 650w instead. coolermaster are a good brand for cooling, but their psu's arent very good. you might be able to rely on a corsair 500w but not a coolermaster.

Like the above guy said you could get better performence for the same money, but I still like your choice, you think the same way I do ;). Motherboard is the heart of a PC and I'd always choose a good motherboard over a better gfx card. 8 phase vrm, pci-e 3.0 and CF/SLI support is definitely worth the extra do. As for the PSU, it's not much but it's good enough for 6850 plus you get a killer case with it :D.

Okay, thanks for the feedback guys :) I'm going to stick with the MoBo, I've reduced the Ram to 4GB at present as getting 8 would mean I needed Win64 bit, which is another $100 so for now I'll stick with 4GB. 3 Questions though, firstly, is it better to get 1x4GB Ram or 2x2GB? Secondly, I'm thinking this for a case Does anyone have an opinion on that case? Is it good? Thirdly, what PSU should I be aiming for 520W or 620+W? Also, what brand is considered the best or a top brand? I heard SeaSonic was good but I'd love someone elses opinion. Thank you all!

Dude you need a better psu, a 6850 needs a minimum of a 600W psu. Get a 700w if you have enough money, but you need atleast a 600w

Oh and its better to use 1x4 gb since you only use up 1 dimm slot instead of 2. Useful if you are going to upgrade in the future.

Wtf, ive never heard of that game before and a 6850 can barely handle a 500W especially this overclocked version.

So, what 500W PSU brand would you get? Could you maybe look through that and select a fairly good PSU

I know a radeon 6850 recommends a 500W psu and up, but this Card is overclocked by 15MHz and I wouldnt recommend it. Atleast get a 600W to be on the safe side.

This Antec looks good for the price. 30A on each 12V rail.

Because of the high disparity in the quality of power supplies, MFG's generally overestimate the power requirements of their parts. As seen in this review, the 6850 and 6870 consume very little power when under load; you could probably run two of them comfortably on a good 550W power supply if needed. If the TC is planning on Crossfiring the cards, I believe a decent 650W supply with the appropriate connectors will do the trick; if not, then a 500W supply will do the job just fine.

This right here. Don't buy Cooler Master PSUs, they're crap. I had mine for less than two months and it started giving me problems, warranty didn't want to take it in so I had to buy another one. I went with Corsair this time around and it has been a much pleasant experience.

I never really looked into AMD because I always hear people talking about Intel. And I know i7>i5>i3. Where as AMD I'm really confused as to whats good and whats not. Here is the list of available AMD CPU's. Which of those seems the best? How different is a 4 core to a 6 core and an 8 core? Is 4 core similar in performance to i3, 6 core i5 and 8 core i7?

I'd just stick with the 2500K. It's worth mentioning that BF3 sometimes encounters problems in some of the bigger maps on systems with 4GB of memory; if you're planning on running BF3, I suggest you spend a little bit more and go for 8GB of memory.

Well I don't plan on playing BF3, so 4gb should be fine. And I value your opinion, but whats the difference between 4,6 and 8 cores on an AMD?

I don't like it. If you wanna save some money get M5A97, FX-4100 and 6870. Otherwise go for the 2500K build. And get a pair of ram sticks, so it can run in dual channel mode.

Plenty of people have recommended things, just because I didn't end up choosing the product, doesn't mean I didn't value your advice. I'm just working on a budget.

The fx-6100 is a weak processor, going amd is a bad idea , even on a budget. And you need 2x2 gb instead of 1x 4gb ram otherwise you lose the dual channel speed. You would be wiser buying this cpu http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_346_1184&products_id=18947 And this motherboard http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=18137 If it's too expensive , you can always switch to this motherboard http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=17197 your card the hd 6850 directcu II is a good deal, if have the hd 6870 version, it operates silent and has good overclocking options. Since they don't have any hd 6870 with superior cooling in pccasegear, i would steak with that asus hd 6850. And for your ram i would buy this http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_774&products_id=18615 Any ram is actually ok, 1600 mhz ram is a little bit faster than 1333 mhz but since you're on a budget i choose this one. You can't cut out on the dual channel speed though, so 2x2 gb is obligatory. And you really need to follow my advice :)
