I really need to replace my old hand me down Hp Netboard but I have no idea about keyboards. My limit is about £120 max and it needs to be backlit and have macrokeys.

nothing flashy, no led no macro and no 10 key but its a solid keyboard and will definitely be buying KB's form CM again. i know its not what you said you wanted, but im just putting in my 2 cents.
I would say go to a store to be able try it first because it is a much different feel.
The Corsair K90 is backlit and mechanical im pretty sure.

Yes it is. I have one now for the last 3 months and I'm not fond of using a mechanical KB. It's way to sensitive for me which causes to make many typing errors. I know many like this board but I would rather have back my Saitek Eclipses that this replaced.

I have a K90 and love it,and I'll not go back to a normal keyboard.
I can type about twice as fast on them for some reason. I guess it's because I grew up typing on the old IBM Model M keyboards...Is their any benefit to mechanical keys? I don't really know much about them.

The thing about mechanical keyboards is that they tend to have very, VERY different switch types. NamelessPlayerThis needs to be emphasized! Too often I see mechanical keybaord discusion of experience and recomendations on here, without any mention of specific switch type. It can be misleading and potentially prevail to a regretful purchase.

Valid point. I also prefer Cherry MX Black's and that link to Overclock.net is an extremely valuable resource for anyone wanting to learn about mechanical keyboards.
These are the keys that are mechanical on the K90>

^^Yes, that is correct..... Also all the non-mechanical keys, the numbers across the top row 1-0, shift bar and all lower shift punctuation marks are not back-lit which is another reason I am disappointed with having bought the K90, along with the fact I'm not a big fan of the MX cherry red switches after having used them for a while. But that's my personal preference, and I would not recommend this board for the price one pays for it ( even though I got it on a great deal)....I think there may be better mechanical boards out there and as mentioned earlier, the type of switches used can make a big difference how one feels about typing or gaming on it..... Others may feel different. Just my 0.02 cents from having used this for a while now.
