UPDATE:

OMFG GUYS the games optimization has SKYROCKETED since even I tested it!!!!!

I can't even explain to you just how much better the game runs now.

A simple test I just did is build 1000 scouts and fly them all over the place, on the old version of this game I'd get into the single frames a second when I did this!

NOW I GET OVER 40 DAM FRAMES WHEN DOING THIS!

That means in some situations performance has LITERALLY GONE UP +5000% THIS IS INSANE!

I was one of the testers for it (GPG let a number of Top ranking players and some of the top modders get their hands on the new game)

Here's what you need to know

The game has been drastically optimized, expect dramatic improvements especially later into the games when more units are on the screen, many computers that couldn't even run it before should be able to play it fine now.

Keep in mind though the game runs significantly better under XP then it does Vista before and after this patch (vistas just bad for gaming at the moment as many of you know)

Aeon no longer dominate on water maps, everything that made them the water powerhouse has been nerfed, however they are still great, just not overpowered

T3 land has been nerfed, T3 land had ridiculous range that really hurt the ability of T2 and 1 to compete, this is fixed, also T3 land factory got a time/cost boost

T2 all in all is much more useful, in the current build you have people skipping T2, doing that right now is a huge risk and T2 plays a vital role.

Mass extraction points are much more valuable so the game all around promotes expanding much more then it did and fabricators a large part of that problem have been nerfed, all around the games whole economy feels much, much better.

The Gigantic Experimental units have become much more practical and are available sooner in the game, but not to the point were they are overpowered.

Anti Air prioritizes it's targets far better so you won't have your AA shooting down some scouts when your base is getting bombed to pieces.

All Aircraft Carriers Including the giant independence day flying CZAR now are also mobile air factories in an effort to make them much more useful

The T3 nuke sub no one ever built is significantly cheaper now so you might see it used!

Unit pathfinding has been greatly improved

Cybrans walking ship walks much faster on land now.

Theirs much more, but I just wanted to give you what I felt are the most important things the patch does.

The patch all in all gives the game a fantastic balance, on top of this games are all around much more action packed then they use to be. Expect the patch within the next few days.

And for you turtlers out there their is now a no rush mode that will allow you to set a timelimit that will create a big bubble around your starting area that will be impossible for you enemy to get through until the time limit you set is up :)

They add the ability to turn Nukes off? Cause they ruin games for me :P Also did they nerf T1 Subs cause they own the seas.

If you really were a tester this is really great news. Especially the part about the increase in optimization. How much did the beta patch improve performance for you and what type of performance increase should I expect from the patch?

My rig:

AMD X2 3800+

Geforce 7600GT

1.25gb RAM

I run the game on max settings @ 1024x768(Mainly because changing the the settings to low literally doesn't change my framerate about 30 mins into the game) At the start of a match my FPS is usually around 27-30FPS, but it drops into the single digits after around 30 mins of play when there are a bunch of structures built and a ton of units out.

Terror subs have been nerfed, mainly Aeons overpowered sub and frigates the games Tech 1 boat got a big buff so subs have a much harder time killing it.

No nuke turn off ability, though I really don't get why nukes are such trouble for you, the anti nuke cost like 10x less then the nuke so you'd really have to be careless to get nuked early on given the nuke cost it's such an investment.

Onemic, my rig is comparable to yours, slightly better, in the early game I'd say performance went up at least 40% in the later game it's far more dramatic, hard to give you exact numbers, but I think you'll definitely have playable framerates now in the latest patch, though I honestly find it surprising that your rig gets into the single digits on low settings.

I have to ask are you talking about vs the AI or online? I'm strictly speaking about online, I haven't played the AI, but can only imagine it still eats CPU's up.

If your talking about VS the AI all I can say is no clue and suggest you play online as it's more fun, if your talking online then I think you might be missing the amd dual core XP patch because online their is no reason your rig should ever get that low in frames on those settings.

I've been following Supreme Commander pretty closely. They did let some of the top players test the patch and everything he's said seems pretty accurate.

Anyway, the new patch should hopefully actually balance the game out. There's going to be a no rush mode too for those that care about that.

Thanks for the news. I already knew most of it, but not the optimizations part. I can't wait for this patch. One of the things that really bugged me about this game was the unit pathfinding and overall performance. It's nice to see that they have improved those.

SirWrinkles

I'm talking about AI of course:P Against 2 AI opponents the game goes into the single digits on max settings. The only reason why I don't change the settings to low is because their is literally no difference in framerate when I do so. In the beginning of the game making the game run at max really only impacts my performance by 2-3FPS anyway.

So If I get around 25-30FPS at the beginning of the game that should get up into the low 40's with the patch? Also how much was your performance impacted later in the game when you played online when compared to before the patch?

It's big and I wouldn't expect alot as far as the AI goes, though I don't even really understand why people bother playing the AI, it's no fun compared to people.

I play the AI when I don't feel like playing against people.

Isn't there NDA's on this type of thing so people don't go talk about it? I know theres NDA's on Betas and stuff.

It's already been announced, a while ago, with a full list of features, so it doesn't really could as violating an NDA.

I like the sound of this patch. I can't wait!

For the record I don't know how this will affect the single player. Yes right nowthe AI on this game really eats computers alive.

Some extra info: No new units. GPG is planning something, but it won't be a weekly new unit like old Cavedog used to do. squidbot (GPG employee) mentioned some AI improvements in the patch, but he was not specific. There will over 800 changes in this patch, most of it will be optimizations, such as more efficient memory usage, etc. However, enthusiasm for these optimizations should be tempered to moderate levels. We cannot be sure just how much performance we will really gain, different people will get different results, and on some it might end up breaking the game completely. Plans to include map editor with the patch has been dropped so that they could get the patch out the door sooner, but Neutrino (another GPG employee) confirmed it's coming "soon." There will also be a GPGNet update a few days after the patch is released. Also, be aware that GPG has confirmed at least two things will end up broken with the new patch: 1. Game saves may or may not break. I can't be sure as GPG made no mention about this, but previous patches have been known to break game saves, so be prepared. 2. What I am definitely sure is that replays made before the patch will break, and GPG has said that they will reset the GPGNet replay vault when the patch comes out. 3. Mods will also break. This is because a large number of the changes they have made to the game include how SupCom handles mods. Modders will have to do some re-writing, but GPG also said that "it's for the better in the long run" and "modders will agree once they see it."

Can't talk about that kind of stuff :o but I can say it's as if the game got new units just in the fact that pretty much all the units are useful now, unlike the current situation were you use about 70% of the games units I'd say it will be more like 95% after the patch :D

Mobile Stealth and the UEF hover unit and the Cybran underwater unit. Other then that it will all be of some use at some time to you, the biggest change of course is the experimentals which played I think didn't do much before, I think now they will be heavily used as they are both cheaper and or more powerful.

Sweet. Hopefully the performance optimizations are true. So far, after checking up on the fan sites and official forums, none of them talk about performance fixes - only in this thread so far.

Must not be looking very hard :P theirs a thread in general discussion on the main forums about the patches performance.

I'll repeat the game has been greatly optimized, but if you have a single core all I can tell you is you really just need to buy a dual core. I've seen dual cores for as cheap as 60 bucks! Honestly the performance boost you get from going from 1 to 2 cores is gigantic.

Well, I have the following:

AMD 4000 2.4ghz

1GB of OCZ RAM

X800GT

I don't mind with putting fidelity on low for my crap GPU, but I really want to play the game smoothly. Will my single-core CPU get these performance leaps too? I'm not planning on upgrading for another few months and I want to play it now.

SirWrinkles

With dual core you need to buy a new motherboard and I dont know what dual core your talking about (Pentium D is laughable), but the core 2 duos are the only ones worth buying and they are around 150+ still. Its about 200-220$ to upgrade to dualcore, isnt cheap by any means.

No not really, to see the improvement you'd really have to buy the game, but I can tell you performance for lower end computers is pretty drastic. I can't speak for the difference on single cores though because I don't have one, I can tell you though the community has plenty of single core users who can play online 1 vs 1 and some maps 2 vs 2 just fine. Just don't expect to be able to play the single player with a single core as the games AI requires a dual core.

Multiplayer is were it's at anyway though :P if you buy supcom you buy it for the multiplayer.

The optimizations are for both the video cards and CPU's so in both areas this patch will help drastically.

And the X2's are definitely worth buying still, you could get a amdX2/AM2 Mobo and a gig of ram for about 150 bucks.

I just really hope you're right about those optimizations, because going into the single digit(I mean around 6FPS when playing SP with just one AI after 30min or more of gameplay) is really beginning to tick me off.

BTW, I heard the editor was coming with the patch, is this true? And if so will the game actually become moddable like it was originally supposed to be?

Online vs human players your fine but, I told you man if your on a single core you will never ever be able to play the AI at good frame rates mark my words, it just isn't possible the AI requires a second core to eat to run well. Online you will fare far, far far better. Tbh I'm not even sure why you'd want to play the AI :P If your worried about getting killed online, don't their are plenty of people that suck at the game online.

Yes the Official editor is also coming with the patch (their is an unofficial user made one right now)

And as far as moddability goes I'm not sure were the hell you got the idea the game isn't moddable right now their is NOTHING in the game that cannot be modded, the mod community has already done a great deal with the game.

All the tools will do is make the game easier to mod, but if you want to mod the game now their is literally nothing you cannot do the mod community right now is very active and hard at work on projects.

I visit the GPG.net forums everyday and haven't really seen a mod that really changes the game, it's basically just UI changes, some T4 units or small DMG modifiers. The only really big mod I've seen, but hasn't released yet is Gothic and  the total commander mod.

Oh and I have an X2 3800+ and my FPS still drops to 6FPS playing angainst 1 AI opponent.

Theirs alot of upcoming big mods like the gothic, Warhammers biggest best mod team moved to supcom and is also at work on something, no game in the history of modding has had a good full conversion mod out this shorter after release man if you want full conversions you gotta wait they take a while, the end of the summer you should start seeing some.

And IT"S OUT GO OG OG

Anyways, I was on a 3800+ SINGLE CORE, and I was able to play 2v2 games on 20x20 maps online with 1GB of RAM relativly fine hour or so into the game during the beta versions (of corse the game dynamically adjusted game speed to compensate, so by the time I hit the 1 hour mark the game time took 2-4 seconds in real time to go by for one second in game).

So im thinking you must have a really high page file, bad drivers, viruses/spyware, a slow hard drive, or somthing like that.  Or it might of just been the patches for the full version casued it.  Cause I was getting fine performance with a 3800+ on 2v2 games online in the beta.

I can't get on GPGNet because I forgot what my account name and password is. And I need a new CD key to use a new account. This sucks, when will fileshack have it hosted?

OMFG GUYS the games optimization has SKYROCKETED since even I tested it!!!!!

I can't even explain to you just how much better the game runs now.

A simple test I just did is build 1000 scouts and fly them all over the place, on the old version of this game I'd get into the single frames a second when I did this!

NOW I GET OVER 40 DAM FRAMES WHEN DOING THIS!

That means in some situations performance has LITERALLY GONE UP +5000% THIS IS INSANE!!

I love Supreme Commander so this is great news.  It just goes to show you that the game wasn't done when they released it though

Well thats THQ's fault they thought the trash CNC 3 was going to kill the game before it even got going if they delayed and they were right, Supcoms sales plummited because of CnC 3 :/

So you really can't blame them.

DAMN I WANT THE PATCH! Stupid CD key "already in use" BS! I can only play offline until somebody gets me a working CD key, or I buy a new copy.

Yes! But!!!!! It says my CD KEY is already in use - with the account name and password that I forgot! It doesn't help when I don't know either one. I need a new CD key for my new account.

I love this patch.

I can spawn 1,000 CZARs while maintaining a playable 13 FPS. Before the patch, I got a crash before I could spawn that many.

omg thats amazing! :P not only 1000 CZARS but on the highest settings to I see! Thats insane!

For anyone who says well 13 frames suck thats 1000 CZARS you will never play a game were you have 10 CZARS let alone 1,000! It's by far the games biggest unit and has one of the highest poly counts, a count thats far higher then the average units.
