I'm looking to upgrade my ram, I'm looking to get pc2-9600 (1200mhz) but I was wondering if it makes a difference if I got pc2-8500(1066mhz) instead? the 9600 I'm looking at is at 5-5-5-12, and the 8500 is at 5-5-5-15, but of course the 9600 is more expensive

also, I have 4gb right now, should I just get 2gb or 4gb again?

fyi. I like to max out ALL of my games, even crysis with 8xAA and such, so it's vital I get top performance!

Since you already know how to overclock(in your sig) just oc the cheaper RAM to the same performance as the 9600(1200mhz). As for 2 gig or 4gig, im not sure, but if you want to run crysis really high than the 4gig is probably better for you.

To tell you the truth, alpowerfull, you probably won't really be able to tell the difference between 9600 and 8500, and for that matter, between 9600 and 5300. There would be a difference, but it would be pretty minor. The question you should ask yourself is how much you're willing to pay for small improvements in FPS.

Also, in terms of performance, the last timing (tRAS) has very little impact on performance. You could potentially go from tRAS 10 to tRAS 20 with essentially zero impact on FPS.

well I'm not keeping 2 different kinds of ram, because it runs at the crappier kind (330mhz I think) so what I'll try doing is replacing the crappier ones with 6400

any tips on oc'ing ram lots?

^^^Great website for learning how to overclock. It's where I learn and get help on overclocking. There is a ram section in the forums also.

Good luck.

iBP_Rickochet

what would be the performance increase (average) from 6400 to 9600?
