You get ram at any computer store, or online store.

There are a few different kinds of ram, but the main ones are DDR (which is the oldest), DDR2 (currently the most used kind in recent PC's), and DDR3 (newest, but isn't too common at the moment).

If you have the motherboard manual, that'll tell you, otherwise, find out your computers configuration.

Installing ram is very easy. Just open up the case, and in any open RAM slot (once again, look at your documentation for where it is on the motherboard), open up the clips on the side of the slot and then place the memory in, the clips will click in when the card is fully in (you may need to wiggle it a bit).

Hope that helps, if you need more info, just say.

You could have summed up your whole post in four letters: GIYF.

It's extremely easy to find information about prebuilt machines with google just by typing in their model number. As for how to install ram, go to youtube and type in "install ram". By teaching people how to help themselves, you're helping them more than if you just tell them what to do.

But they are asking here for help.

Not for someone to just knock back there question with go search google yourself.

People normally ask questions for answers.

I don't see how telling him how to install ram with text and no pictures is better than telling how to go find a video of it being installed, and if you teach someone how to find information for themselves, they won't need to ask such basic questions any more.

Haven't you ever heard that if you give a man a fish he eats for a day, but if you teach him how to fish he eats for a lifetime?

Wiki's motherboard entry

If you want to find the type of ram you need, crucial.com has what they call their memory advisor tool that will find what type of ram your system uses. I would then use that information and go buy some ram on newegg, which is far cheaper.

Its more of the case of giving the user at least an inital understanding of what needs to be done. I'm sure that any user can serach up google or youtube on how to install ram.

I mean, I'm not disagreeing that youtube is a much better tool at showing something then text is, but the point of the fact is that he/she was asking a question and I was answering that question. Now the thought of youtube didn't actually occur to me, and frankly it's a great idea now that I've seen you suggest it.

Don't forget, that nowhere in your initial post did you say search google.

But frankly, I don't feel like arguing, especially over such a trivial thing, so I'm dropping it.
