I know MGS2: Substance isn't highly regarded on the PC because of its insanely confusing control setup. I've always been more of a consol gamer, and MGS2 was my favorite game when it came out. A few years later, I'm bored over the summer, so I buy substance for xbox (I only have a PC and an xbox 360 now). I realize after the fact that the 360 does not support MGS2, as it is one o the many games that the 360 is not backwards compatible with. So I return the xbox version and buy the PC version in an attempt to replay one of my favorite games growing up.

I was thinking about solving the control problem by buying a USB wireless receiver for my xbox 360 controller to play. If anyone has any experience with MGS2 for the PC using consol controllers, please let me know how it worked out for you before I buy my own wireless receiver. I appreciate any feedback!

I used a wired 360 controller, reconfigured the controls, it ran fine

Also, I'm not sure if this was changed with patches, or is a non-issue now, but I remember reading that MGS2 could be really picky with video cards.

But other then that, I think it was a pretty good port.

Hmm... if you have a controller you'll be fine, but trying to use the keyboard setup will only cause you pain and misery - I know this from experience (although on the bright side, dealing with the PC version's horrible keyboard controls made me really good at the console versions). If you're having video issues, try scaling your graphics settings down a little bit - that's a problem I had.

The games doesn't need a fancy controller. I have a controller that is similar to the original Playstation controller (without the thumbstick) and it works very well. The 360 controller should be fine as long as it has shoulder buttons because it's more intuitive to choose items. As long as you have 10 buttons with shoulders, you should be ok. The altenative, which is the keyboard, is difficult.

As for graphics, my computer is abot 5 years old and it ran MSG2 nicely all on high. The graphics looks software rendered though, but I'm guessing that was just from the bad port.

I used my Xbox 360 controller and I still had a bunch of control problems. In the end I simply had to sacrifice controls to play the game.
