It is my second favorite game of the year behind Mass Effect 2. It's a similar feel (i.e. post nuclear apocalypse) to STALKER, but much more linear, so if you're looking for an open world game look elsewhere. In my opinion it's one of the most atmospheric games ever made. Keep in mind that it's extremely difficult to run though. What are your specs?

Besides the creepy atmosphere it's nothing like the Stalker games. I loved the atmosphere and from what I played the story seemed interesting, but after a few hours I just got bored with it. I'd say if you liked the atmosphere in Stalker and you like linear shooters then you'll probably like Metro.

It has a similar setting to STALKER, but with a more linear and scripted story telling and events similar to Modern Warfare (keep in mind I'm not talking about gunplay or action at all, just the scripted events).

its a linear stalker game with gunplay that seems really clunky and meh. there is also there is a smaller array of weaponry than in any of the stalker games. still, a great game regardless. it even has the same glitch as the STALKER games where tree and other objects' shadows move when you move. if you want doom 3 and stalker mixed together, then this is your game.

I think its awesome, linear stalker like game. I like stalker better but Metro felt very fresh to me. Also the graphics are phenomenal (not that it should be a huge factor in your decision)

I wouldnt say "bad", more like mediocre. Still a great game however, one of my favorites.

Great graphics, incredible atmosphere, some unique weapons, gun play is average, but it's a great game.

It's my goty for most unexpectedly good game. I recently got it when I saw someone here compared it to a hybrid of CoD and Stalker. Having just finished it yesterday, I agree that is the best description for it. It has a very linear but cinematic campaign structure as the CoD series, but a premise and environment that closely resembles Stalker. And it has some good stealth missions which is always a plus for me. Many people complained of performance problems. But I could play it swell on my 5 year old system with most advanced settings, as long as I played in DX9 mode and not DX10. But that was the case with Crysis too.

It's a sweet game. But it's linear, so don't expect STALKER.

Super linear shooter with acceptable gunplay and short campaign length (7-14 hours depending on difficulty). Despite these shortcomings, I still found it to be very immersing & enjoyable. The visuals are phenomenal, the world is detailed and unique, and the story is decent.

its a great game, no doubt about it, but for some reason I just cant keep playing it. Maybe its because I have too many games on my plate at the moment, but I just cant seem to keep trucking along

Amazing immersion, beautiful sound, slick gameplay that is the perfect blend of horror, desperation ("Oh crap, only 3 bullets left!"), and great visuals (graphics, level design, etc).

just because of the shooting physics(which are pretty realistic...headshots kill/or shoot off helmet...low cal weapons wont go thru body armor) and the graphics and atmosphere...its definitely a game i think everyone should play...and cod should take notes...i recommend it to everyone

If you can pick it up cheap then its worth it. Its not worth full price. I got 10 hrs out of it. Its an impressive looking game, its just a shame its so linear.

Metro 2033 really nails the atmosphere. If you're looking to max this game out on 1080p and higher, you're looking at a GTX 460 GPU equivalent or better. This is my observation using an overclocked GTX 460 1GB running on DX9. It's a very demanding game. The reason why I mention this because it would be pointless to play this game at anything less than 30fps. This game has some huge fps spikes in specific areas. The gunplay is very questionable though. Gun mechanics and ballistics are somewhat broken. Poor hit detection may cause some frustrations and the currency system is absurd. If you can get pass those issues, you'll really enjoy Metro 2033 for its atmosphere and storytelling. Like I said before, you won't get any satisfaction from the gunplay if you're looking to pop a monster or human enemy in the head.
