I picked up metro 2033 a few days ago, and I noticed artifacts very similar to what is in this video, although not as severe. If the video is a 10 on severity, then I'm probably at a 3 or 4.

So far, the only thing I've noticed it on is the wrist watch, especially when using the bullet lighter.

Has anyone else encountered this while playing the game? I'm concerned as to whether it's my card, an issue with amd drivers, or an issue with the game.

64-65 C when I checked just now.

I hope it isn't a card issue, as this one is itself an RMA replacement:?

If it was a hardware issue, wouldn't it be evenly distributed over the screen instead of just on the watch?

is that idle or load, if the card is getitng too hot during load then that can cause the artifacts. It wouldnt necessarily be all over the screen it could just be triggered by certain graphical effects.

Looks suspicious.Try to put your card in a different PCI-E slot, and if on N-Vidia restore your profile on Control Panel to Base Profile.Probabaly can do it with ATI to.

That's what it was under load. The artifacts happen immediately upon starting the game, sothat makes me think it isn't an overheating issue.

I get similar artifacts in distant treetops in crysis and warhead, but only if anti aliasing is enabled. Again not my video, but they look like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GnsJPEFY2Q

I've been playing a lot of doom3, quake4, and prey, all running maxed out with between 4-16x aa and haven't noticed anything in those games.

Tomorrow I'll try and update my bios, as well as switching pci-e slots.

I'm just hoping it's some kind of weird software issue, and not an unlucky streak with 2 bad cards in a row/motherboard issue.:?

Try the different slot first. BIOS Upgrade LAST resource... Is it really bad? can you play Metro at least and not worry about the artifacts? I'm just saying cause it might just be a weird thing with Metro, and not worth all the troubleshooting time....

Well I'm only about an hour into the game, but the only thing I've noticed it on so far is the watch, so it's just a bit distracting whenever it's visible.

I was hoping that it was some kind of driver thing since older games don't have any issues. Apparently catalyst 10.11 released today too, so maybe that will fix it.

I got the same thing on the same level. Its not artifacting. The way it sparks and shines is much more like a particle effect. My card was at around 73*C. I've been up around 83*C before & never got any artifacts. trust me dont worry about that thing. I've recent cleaned my card & The temps range around 63*C-71*C & i still get teh samething. its just a glitch.

These are normal sometimes when HDR processing, looks like the guy in the video is running a bench test in the background.Try also to put a new cable from the GPU,the PCI-e one to the mobo, also check your VGA adapter if using one,are put the monitor cable on the different VGA/DVI place.

Leave the Bios upgrade as last resort,if it aint broken don`t fix it.Also which card is it?

The card is an xfx ati 5870. Painguy says it's apparently normal though for metro.

Can be.If you have no heat issues, than it` can be the game.Since I`m not leaving ol` XP,and don`t know if it`can be done on Vista or Win7,if possible run the part in question under DirectX 9.Also I think it should be installed even on those OS`es for compatibility sake.Keep monitoring your temps, and check the connectors, does`nt sound like it`s dying, but stay alert till next driver update anyway.

I played around with the resolution settings, and apparently the flashes only appear at 1920x1080 and to a lesser extent at 1680x1050. If they're there at lower resolutions, then they're so hard to detect that I couldn't see them.

I don't know if that would point towards my card being the issue or the game itself.

You just answered your question The flashes are very noticeable at 19 x12 ( Native res ? ) Less so at 16x10 and unnoticeable at lower res... Sounds like somebodies pixels are not playing nice . Could be the monitor....pixel controller going bad.
