Tried posting this in the XBOX 360 board but I guess I should have moved it to a more audio/hardware focused board

I just picked up some Tritton AX720's (went with the Tritton because it's compatible with PS3 and PC as well). I already had a pair of high end Sennheiser Headphones.. mainly use them for my movie watching late night.

I really enjoy my online gaming so I felt like it was time to get a gaming headset so I could have my mic and headphones all in one spot..I was thinking I would also get, if not much, clearer voice transmit volume, so people could actually distinguish my voice. As opposed to the standard Microsoft wired, and wireless headsets.

I guess I was wrong?

With the Tritton on X360 my voice still sounds like trash, if not worse than what it had sounded like with the Official microsoft headsets.

Then I plug it in to my PS3 and PC, and my voice sounded crystal clear and easily distinguishable. This leaves me to question the XBOX live dealing with voice transmitting; have they capped the voice transmit quality?

I work at a local game store, and we're selling Tritton and Turtle Beach headsets all the time.. yet I never really hear anyone sounding crystal clear online with the X360 (I'm not trying to start flame on the x360,I love the system, just wondering about the Mic clarity) ..howbout you guys?

The main question here is, does X360 Mic voice clarity always have such low quality, not anything to do with the headset? be it high end, or the standard one that comes in the box? The main test is recording my own voice and hearing the playback..(still sounds roughly unclear.. you can hear what I'm saying, just not very distinguishable)

My priority with a gaming headset was voice clarity.. and I got that when I plugged my Tritton's into my PC, and PS3.. yet X360..nadda. Any info on the situation?

Yeah, voice chat on Xbox Live is not very high quality. I don't know the specifics of it, but it sounds very low bitrate. PSN has superior voice chat quality.

It's important to note that they are likely using the same voice chat protocol they used with the original Xbox Live way back in 2002. Hopefully now that they've eliminated the legacy Xbox Live, they will be able to beef up voice chat quality.

I know a bit about this issue, having come over from PC gaming within the last year. I did have a set of very good gaming headphones (Sennheiser PC-350s) that I wanted to use on the X-box. I ended up with various adapters and splitters to get it up and running, but while the sound was excellent the voice quality wasn't amazing, which wasn't really what I wanted from a top end set of gaming cans, especially as I was getting tangled up all the time with wires. I ended up selling them to raise some funds, tried the cheap MW2 throat mike for a while (sound was finebut myvoice was muffled)and then I ended up with a set of Turtlebeach X-31s which are the best solution so far. The voice quality isn't crystal, but is much better than the throat mike and the same as the Sennheisers with adaptors, plus they're wireless. I'm considering trading up to a set of X-41s, but will put this in another thread.

To summarise, I think that the X-box is the primaryfactor - thevoice quality between a top end set of PC gaming headphones and a medium range X-Box specific set is the same.

I have the same AX 720's and my voice is crystal clear on Xbox Live, both when sending messages and talking to others. There are a lot of problems with the headset in general, but I haven't had that one. I have however run into a problem where I won't be able to hear my friends but they can hear me. I never had that problem with the regular MS headset.
