I am a fairly big PC game player. To tell you the truth I really think that PC gaming is awsome... Its just that upgrades are just way to expensive and the whole upgrading thing is starting to make me angry.. It sucks when you spend so much money building a PC then the year after you build it a game comes out and you can barely play the game due to your hardware...Im thinking about trading in my PS2+all my games to get an Xbox 360...The consoles seem so much easier to play and I like the fact that you can just pop in a game and play it...I think im just going to use my computer for music, msn, etc....Gaming on a computer is justt way to expensive for me in my opinion and I just hate the fact that you spend so much more money than a console.... But I still belive overall that PC games are pretty sick.

And I was wondering. Would an XBOX 360 work well on an Acer 19" widescreen monitor?

Thanks.

For the price of an X-BOX360, you can upgrade your computer, and save more money because the games are cheaper on the PC.

Do you really want to shell out $60 per game?

Buy better upgrades, when you buy them and you won't need to upgrade so often. I used same PC for three years and I only used 200 euros on upgrading.

I suggest you upgrade "smarter". Everyone likes to bash PC Gaming because of how much $$ upgrades costs you, when actually PC Gaming is probably cheaper in the end. Games are cheaper, online is generally free, etc. You don't need cutting egde specs to stay in the loop of current gen games either. Also, with games like Assasin's Creed, Bioshock, Gears of War, HL2:Orange Box, Enemy TerritoryQuake Wars; all of which are going to be available(Gears is already) on both 360 and PC, you're not going to be missing out on things to play. I say stick with it man!

You know what...I think you guys are right...I dont really have a job yet so upgrading will be easier for me in the future... And you right aswell, you dont need the best specs in your rig, as long as you can play the games..Thats the important thing...At EB games theres a deal going on, trade in any system with 10 games and you get the 360 for 299$, but plus tax thats around 345$ and plus the games aswell. Alot of cash.....Meh, Im also a big paintball player, I have to manage my money well...Screw the 360... Im jsut gonna stick to upgrading when I need to..

My specs are

BGF 7900GT

X2 4200+

2 GIGS RAM (Want to get two more soon)

480 WATT PSU

I upgrade my pc once every 2 years lol

I can settle perfectly fine for low graphics. TH eonly time I worry about upgrading is when I can barely run a game at all.

I hate to sound condescending here, but why would you want to upgrade the system that you have now? It should run most games just fine without the need for an upgrade, granted you probably won't be able to max out crysis but still, it would be a waste to upgrade this system now. If anything, i'd wait a year and maybe get a better GPU (when DX10 cards become the norm) but that's it.

Agreed. most people think they need to buy the most expensive equipment to get a good experience on the PC. thats not the case by a longshot. you can buy all your stuff mid-range and still have an awesome time playing your PC.

The way I look at it, you gotta pay to play.

And oh yeah I just added a PS3 to the mix lol! :D

P.S. Having skills (or at least a good education) makes it easier.

Good luck to ya.

Your specs are fine. My 7900GT can handle every game I've played so far at max or near max settings @ 1280x1024.

Also, unless you have a 64bit OS, you won't be able to use 4gigs of RAM and considering the current state of Vista x64, you shouldn't be in a hurry to upgrade to it just yet. 2GB is more than enough more any game right now.

Probably x360 would be a nice call to go with. But I would never "switch" to anything, keep playing on PC also, cause some PC games are not the same on console.... and same goes the other way as well

AKS_74U

64-bit Vista

XP also comes in a 64-bit flavor. For 1 or 2 GB of memory, you don't need 64-bit, but can run it if you are so inclined. Plan on upgrading to 4 GB +, playing the 64-bit version of Crysis (or some other game), you do.

Nope. Since all games are programmed for 32-bit.

I'm in the same boat as you, except my problem isn't that I have to upgrade to run the games, it's that I have to upgrade to run the exact same games as the consoles are getting due to multiplatforming. Developers are not giving gamers enough of a reason to upgrade their PC's right now. In 1.5-2 years from now it will be worth it since PC's will be well beyond the consoles, but until then I really can't see myself upgrading. PC gamers are being treated like the runt of the litter... throw us a few scraps to keep us from starving but nothing more.

Everyone likes to bash PC Gaming because of how much $$ upgrades costs you, when actually PC Gaming is probably cheaper in the end. Games are cheaper, online is generally free, etc.xcryonicx
You need to remember about renting though. That's something I see ignored so often when talking about the difference in PC/console pricing. I'm not advocating consoles here, but that side should be mentioned as it significantly lowers the costs of gaming unless you're pirating.

Most people who tries to bash or complain about pcs on this subject quite honestly don't know what they are doing half the time. They get certain processors because they are big and expensive.. But they never read benchmarks or any sorts of test results from numerosu sights realizing that their chip is only alittle better then other models that are hundreds of dollars cheaper.

Or they choose a poor video card like a 8600 GT with out realizing that its weaker then a 7600 GT when it comes to muscle.. Or think that buying a $200+ motherboard some how will make a huge performance increase.. Or SLI is the way to go some how.. List goes on, half these people who complain hardly ever do any research what so ever nor keep their eyes on prices.. They just run over to Bestbuy look for a expensive part and say "Hey this looks cool!" buy it and then realize later on that it really wasn't that good not to mention over priced to begin wtih.. This doesn't even include the crowd who buys a pre built machine, which I never understand either.

IN the end you can buy a pc that outdoes any console in graphics any day of the week for $1000...

SO with that $1000 your doing a xbox360 ($400), a PS3 ($500) not to mention the expensive tv they will use if you want to get the full piciture which can range any where from $300 to $1000 on top of that price. While on the other hand the PC isn't just for games but numerous other things.. Every one needs a PC now a days and you can buy ones for around $300...

Lets not forget your getting the best multiplayer community out there, access to just about every game released on the computer for nearly two decades, a actual user made mod community extending games exponentially in playability....

You are crazy. PC gaming is much less expensive than console gaming.
