You could make dynamite and blow up cobblestone that way but you'll have to kill creepers to get gunpowder and then after you blow up the blocks some of them might be destroyed.

This is a serious question, i am far past the first night. Im not asking if i can destory it with a pickaxe, Im asking if i can destroy a block without me being directly involved. Such as using pistons or something to destroy a block.

Download a mod like BuildCraft or Industrial Craft. Make machines to do the tedious work for you. Of course it takes quite a bit of mining to get the materials needed to build those machines. Other options include: Play creative mode or use a mod like TooManyItems so you don't have to mine for anything.
i guess you could get a whole bunch of creepers angry and then get them to detonate but itd involve far more effort than its probably worth. you also wouldnt get all of the debris back only some.
This is where I hope the NPCs end up. Being able to hire them or something to mine/woodcut/farm for you. Instead of them just being there and walking around.

You can make automated cobblestone generators, you just need a few pistons, most of them will be for redirecting the cobblestone, but for actually making it you need just one, lava + water = cobblestone, push the block that forms towards the "processing unit" you build and it'll continue to make new cobblestone blocks.

This is the machine I currently have, the automated cobblestone generator, i just was wondering if there was a way to automaticaly have the cobblestone break while i was gone so i could just come back and pick up a bunch.
