Hello , ladies and gentlemen , what is your opinion related to MMOG vs.SP - based games ?

In my opinion , the SP - based games , are useless , a thing of the past , because

1 . The MMOG offer , the single player and multiplayer experiences in the same package ,you don't have to stop a SP game and then go to the multiplayer tabin the game menus . If you really want to play alone , you can take solo , but , you can join other players anytime .

2 . To play alone isn't that fun . You can make friends , etc.

The videogame market evolved from no PC games , to SP - BASED games and , finally , the MMOG , as the PC technology and , especially , the Internet , develop more and more .

For me , the PC game market and developers should focus only on MMOGs . Maybe , they will .

Thank you for listening me and for your interest in this problem .

Can you expand on this, because I don't understand your meaning. I generally don't like to play online due to general jackassery of many players and the massive time committment required to compete. Plus, my preferred genres are RPG (story-driven), Adventure, and TBS - so for me personally MMOGs cannot offer too much.

true, alot of people play games to escape from society for a few hours and such.. having someone (in the game) call them names or succumb to "jackassery"lol, doesnt really let them do that.

i honestly like them both, im glad there are so many good(theoried) mmo's comming out.

i also like single player to not worry bout other people sometimes.

but mmo's are becoming more and more popular, and i really like them as well.

it really only matters on the mood im in.

im really looking forward to SWTOR, and the secret world.

and maybe huxley...... if it ever comes out.

but there are some i cant wait to play the single player of as well, tons of shooters, and RTS games some rpgs.

and a bunch that have been out for a while, that im waiting on till i upgrade so i can play them at the settings i want.

and alot of these are multi-player as well..

i dont want everything mmo though, i prefer small rooms sometimes with low pings.

A good game is a good game I'd rather play a good sp than a bad mmog or a good mmog than a bad sp The best mmog I have played was asherons call ( first one ) no zones a massive world with no loading times regular ( free ) updates massive battles no instances you could jump and there was tons of content it was heaven ( 9.5 /10 ) but mmogs have went downhill since, I've played loads and I wouldn't rate any over 8/10 eg: DAOC 7/10 AC2 6/10 wow 7/10 Horizons 6.5/10 Ryzom 6.5/10 COH 8/10 Lord of the Rings 7.5/10 Age of connan 5/10 eve online 7.5/10 The best single player game is hearts of iron 2 ( still play it ) though hearts of iron 3 is a bit of a disappointment Though got to admit Overlord pretty much was fantastic ( 9/10 ) liked the dawn of war stuff too

Eve Online =7.5/10 lol....Hmmm..well lets see.

#1Its the only "Good" MMORPG you cant bot to the top inless then 3 months which makes it a long term game,Why buy a game if ya at the top in 3 months?

#2 Its entirly player driven. From the market to Faction War

#3 Has the most intence though can be laggy pvp ive ever seen any game out.Lag does tend to happen with 300-800ppl fighting at once in one spot.

#4 Is the only game i know of you can pay to play with ingame money(isk).Though aint somethign a new player can do right off the bat but is very possible after a few months if you no what your doing.

#5 Has the most players on 1 server then any other game and has held the record for 5 years now..that im aware of...not your typical 2300 ppl on per shard like other games like SRO/jade dyn and others...WOW just upgrades its servers to 10k about a year ago when eves server was still mroe then capiable of hanlding 5 times was a single shard of wow can handle today ,then.

#6 Games econmoy is still the only one i know of that hasnt had a gaint boost in inflation due to gold bots and the GMs of ccp keep it that way..what other games GM's acually come close to CCPs staff.

#7 In thenext year or so EVE/CCP hf. well be the first company to bridge the PC and the console togather with DUST 514.

#8 The game is very complexe which most ppl who first start to play on trails dont like, why not?.Been playing sence 05 and im still learnign about stuff in EVE Online.Keeps the game intresting and not easy like all other games which are mainly made for kids..EVE is a adaults game.Old Cenus places the average player of eve at the age of 27...not 10...So yes it can be complexe but thats good in more ways then bad if you think about it.

#9 Game has decent graphics compared to other MMOs Ive played(SRO,JADE DYN,PW,WOW {for the 3 days i played it},12MOONS or what ever its called.

#10 Largest game map consisting of 5000 solar systems and 2500 hidden worm hole systems,on the strongestCluster Super Computer in the industry(has been for awhile now)with awsome GM's who do alot more then GM's in other games do.Game is the only game with a player based counsole which talks directly with the GM/Dev's of the game,to help the devs see what the players want to happen to the game.

#11 Game is considerd to be harsh which is really good makes for intresting game play.In other games Gm's intervien to much. In EVE some GM's support/endorse scamming other players....theres no rules...Just dony pick on newplayersin the 12 starter systems and no hacking and gold/char/item selling or buying..and there arnt any rules..Well and no swearing..but most dont acually tell on you..as i said most players are adaults...not kids. When you die you dont just fall over and lose alittle exp and respawn in town..that ship you been tryign to get for the past month gets blown up and you dont get it back along with the mods that where on it and if you get poded you lose your if +5 very expensive implants ane if your clone not updated you lose 1 level to you highest skill, which if lets say was Battleship V,well you just lost about 25 days of sp training.Which takes "25" days of sp training to get back.

#12 Last but not least. It dont take 1000 of hours of grinding to lvl as it is a SP based game, which allows you to train sp while offline.Again..dont no of another that does that eatheir.Game does not take a massive amount of time playing to acually do somethign in the game...You can play only for a few hours a day and still make the money to buy a plex and a ship to pvp with easyly...(if you know what your doing)

Game is a easy 10/10 no game comes close..EVE sence its release has been the top dog of MMORPGS sence its release in 03.Has set/broken many records in the gaming industry and well keep setting/breaking them. Now most ppl who try the game out and quit after 3 days cuase they cant read teh toturs are just dumb and can say what they what about the game..but EVE rules period...No game comes close....Name one aspect in any game that is better then the gameplayof EVE...oh yaand a2003 game was just award GOTYby MMORPG.com guess which one.

and to stay on topic o think i already awnsered the question but i well again to just make sure you get it.....=SP based MMO

SP > MMOG. Yes, playing alone is fun. Games like Dead Space, Mass Effect and Half-Life 2 prove this. :|

Phil, in response to your wall of text, for some, its just too slow paced, and quite frankly boring.

You talk about the awesome 5000 star systems yet when I was traversing through it all, it just seemed like a lot of dull empty space. Now I'm not planning on getting Star Trek online or any other MMO for a while, but the Space visuals in STO were really quite interesting and lively, as oppossed to the vast emptyness of EVE online. I most if not a good number only play EVE to see what it can be, and in their own minds hype it up to be something greater than it actually is.

Wow, 500 player battles? Yeah slow paced screen saver action, oh wow the action is jaw dropping! Please.

Single player without a doubt. The only people playing MMO's have to be spoilt brats using mummy's card. I don't believe for a second that someone who earns their money and knows the value of it would pay a monthly subscription for a game.

This.

In SP games, you get exactly what you expect, the whole experience is what you make of the game yourself, and sp games have superb stories compared to MMOs. MMOs focus on size, sp games focus on story and atmosphere. A MMO's experience depends entirely on others and that most of the time isn't a good thing, because not all players are fun to play with and you can't do anything without other players at high level missions.

Depends, linear single player games are fun, but limited, while mmos offers notably more, for example social, networking and updated content. If you're an mmo player then you too probably experience the after effect of attempting to play a linear game, with the impression that the game feels very plain and empty.

There are single player games that has encourage me to to invest an arsenal amounts of hours into over the years. These specific single player games however, implements a great deal of ingenuity, freedom/choices and supporting my creativity to implement within the game(The Sims, Spore, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Grand Theft Auto 3+, Halo CE ect.) the clear tools for phenomenal gameplay that are dynamic in my personal use for playing singleplayer games overtime.

I have to be honest, I'm easily lured into fantastic image quality(I'm an artist), but after analyzing that if the games suffers from poor gameplay then it will easily be forgotten. Today, besides marketing, graphics seems to be the selling point, so in a factor of a result barring high development cost, developers are not focusing in the long term of thinking with game design priority; I much rather will invest my time and money with an mmo then the saturation of linear games with the same ol' gameplay for limited fun.

I play single player when I want to be deeply immersed in a game and multiplayer games when I want the benifit of playing against humans (each has their benifit) - but never MMOs. MMOs are essentially reward for suffering based - and is not unlike a cruel form of slavery. When I play games I like being able to enter/exit at will - not spend hours chained to a dungeon out of a certain sense of obligation to others, or fora chance of a reward. To me playing games is about always experiencing new things.

Well with single player, you don't have to worry about other people stealing what you need (kills, loot, etc), and the story line usually goes more in depth. Also, there isn't that competition feel for having the best gear, and a player can usually focus on the story itself.

Personally, I like the competition, so I usually do enjoy MMOG over SP games, but it all depends on what type of experiece you're looking for that day, whether you're gonna beat AI or real players.

Singleplayer games are like a fine dining experience. Theyre generally more memorable, but at the same time theyre more expensive (finite amount of content), and what you get is fairly limited. However, the quality of what you get is simply superb.

MMOGs are like a buffet. You get a lot of content for a good price, but the quality is generally average.

Both have their places. Singleplayer is not dead though, jesus man

Actually, MMO's are my least favorite. SP isn't a thing of the past for me. I enjoy a good SP. I do tend to play mutiplayer more, but Sp will never be out of the picture for me.

Single player games with a world as huge as MMOs would be the best. Like Oblivion or Fallout 3, if they had much better gameplay mechanics and much better writing.

If we can't have a mix of both, I'll pick single player.
