Its a habit of mine to download alot of free mmo's and then drop out within a week. I usually drop out once I reach my targeted armor or weapon set that ive been grinding awhile for. After reaching that goal, it doesn't feel like I really need to grind any more. So I just quit since there isn't much of a variety of things to do other than grind, quest, shop, or mingle. The only types of mmo's that would get my attention are those with a unique combat system. Something on the lines of Atlantica online or Guild wars. Anyone else like me out there?

You get what you pay for, and when you pay nothing...well, I think you see where I'm getting with this.

Yeah, I've done that with a ton of ftp mmos. I've also done that with ptp mmos, like AoC, Warhammer online, WoW, Tabula Rasa and the original EQ. The longest I've stuck with an mmo is about a month. They just get really boring to me.

mmorpgs are fundamentally flawed. Grinding isn't fun and the only way to have your game last more than 12 hours and make a profit is to include unnecessary grindan.

I do not understand how people can confuse these games to be fun.

I played WoW for 4 years. I quit a few months back but I still consider it the best game I've ever played. I had a group of 7-8 mates play aswell, and it was a blast, but as a couple left, the game became less enjoyable and we quit just after the release of Burning Crusade. A few months later most of us came back to it, and with the introduction of 10 man raids, bonded with guild mates alot more, which kept us going for a lot longer. I may even go back to WoW again, but I have more important things at the moment. WoW is fun solo though.

tl;dr - Most MMO's are average solo games. MMO's are excellent, if not the best, games to play with mates.

I actually like grinding in MMOs. I've only played WoW though. the endgame is alright though WoW's endgame is awfully too easy and it ends all too quickly since BC and WotLK

Same here. I tried Perfect World and Runescape. It's horrible. I left after 2 hours of play. :x

I agree. MMOs are repetitive and dull.

I completly agree with you, i think my problem is that i love the idea of mmo's but when i actually play them i get bored to quickly, I did like LOTRO but i wasnt patient enough to find a fellowship to do some of the quests so if more people played i mite have liked it more.

The only one im intrested in at the moment is biowares star wars:the old republic because i loved the first 2 games so i think if they keep alot of the core mechanics of the game and is story focussed like they say it will be i think it could be a great game. I suppose ill just have to wait and see though.

Is there anything to figure out, really? Some like apples, others like oranges. Some like the colour red, some prefer blue. Some people love blondes, others prefer brunettes. Some folks prefer consoles, some people prefer PCs. The list goes on and on. Its not really rocket science, dudes...

Yar. I'll agree with all of you who say MMO's are quite dull. I tried out WoW and honestly I was at the same level of bored as I was with any other free MMO. That does not mean i'll give up on MMORPGs. If a truly and genuinely fun one pops up then i'll certainly give it a try.

I agree I was really looking forward to another star wars rpg but then they came out with an mmrpg so I'm hoping they at least make it different than the other mmorpgs on the market.

Yeah, they are, because gaming was never about static, repetitive trial and error, 2D point and clicking gameplay lmao

I don't think they're boring, if that's the style of gameplay one enjoys. However, to call these games RPGs is, in my opinion, inaccurate, as in an RPG, you play a role: you are an integral part of how the story plays out, and you get to make your own choices as to how it all goes down. But in an MMORPG, all you really do is pick a class/tactic and play until you reach the highest level, and when you're not besting a boss, it's some other mage or paladin. Just because a game has a character development stat system doesn't make it an RPG.

If you play a game type that you always, always find boring... the problem isn't the game...

Stop playing them!

I used to find MMOs really boring...even though I beta tested a million of them...including WoW, EQ,EQ2,Saga of Rhyzom,Tabula etc.

Just could never get into them....

Then someone gave me LOTRO Mines of Moria for X-Mas....and I found I actually like it.

Especially having a Fellowship/Kin

I'm sure I'll eventually get bored with it...and I don't play it every day ( But I do play it alot )

Being a big Tolkien freak doesn't hurt either.

Compared to many of the the other MMOS out there...the graphics are pretty good ( WOW just blows in comparision )

I also like FPSs ( Stalker, Crysis,Bioshock etc ) and RPGs( Witcher, NWN2 )...and even a few RTSs ( I used to be a big RTS fan....played Age of Empires forever !! )

I guess it depends on what kind of mood I'm in and how burned out on other games I am.

I just know right now LOTRO is fitting the bill and I'm having fun playing it....and thats all that counts.
