Hi everyone, I just got my new rig today (my case should be here any moment and I'll start building) and was wondering what the order is of the CDs to install. Do I use the motherboard's CD first, or install Windows first? And after that, I guess it doesn't matter what CDs go when (e.g., video drivers, etc.). Thanks.

Get an operating system installed first. Drivers allow your operating system to talk to your hardware, therefore you need an operating system first.

It's not a stupid question. Being clear on procecdure and function is an invaluable thing.

indeed it is, for a person whos doing these things for the first time, the simplest questions that might appear simple can be the ones that need figuring out first

Thanks for the answers and support guys. I know it is a stupid question in a way, but I just wanted to confirm (I would have gone OS first if I didn't get any replies anyway), as you guys figured out, it is my first build, so I just want everything to go as smooth as possible :)

You shouldn't be one towards others then. You clearly, straight out called the OP "stupid". He came here looking for help before he began working on his build; it's his first time doing this and he wanted to make sure he did things right. I see no reason to treat the OP like you did. Yes you did answer the question, but that's all you need to do. No need to make someone feel bad because they're asking a question about something they're not sure about.

to be fair, a lot of OEM servers have preinstallation environments that you would fire up before starting the OS install :D

This pretty much sums it up, about the stupid question comment. TC's question has been answered. Not sure if you will have to set your boot options to CD first in BIOS setup though.

Is English your second language? If it is, then I suppose I can understand the spelling errors and grammar mistakes you have. If it's not, then you really should try your best to type out the CORRECT spelling of words. For example, don't use "no" when you should be using "know", it makes you look lazy and stupid. It's not a good quality to have, especially if you're ever going to look for a job - if you can't spell or speak correctly, folks tend to not hire you because of it. I should know, I get to help in the hiring process of people. We look for well spoken individuals that can present themselves in a well educated manner. Those that can't do this, they're passed up. Anyone that's graduated high school should be able to be well spoken and come across as intelligent.

Also, saying that the questions is "stupid" means you're implying that the person asking the questions is stupid. Telling someone their question is stupid is the same as calling the person stupid; peroid.

I suppose others and myself have beaten the horse to death on this subject and it might be in the mods best interest to lock this thread or for us (the posters) to stop posting in it due to the fact that we've answered the OP's question. I vote for the latter, this is my last post here.

Hopefully the OP has built their computer and everything is running correctly. Best of luck to you.

Are you seriously posting with the sole intention of trying to correct someone's spelling on an internet forum - while making personal suggestions about his/her education?

Wow.

You don't even use the CDs, get the latest drivers from the company website.

OS first is correct. But if you are going to run RAID you often have to install the drivers for that. It would be on the Motherboard CD. You may need to put the driver on a floppy disc and when you start to install the OS it will ask you to press F6 to install any dedicated drivers. That is when you install them. Other wise the OS won't reconise your RAID setup
