USB 2.0 is technically faster than ethernet, if I remember correctly. But with high speed internet, it won't even come close to the maximum speed of either of those connections. I just use ethernet because I can never get enough usb ports :).

Actually it all depends on which USB and which ethernet you are using. Right now the faster of these two connections is the gigabit ethernet which is 1000Mbits. USB 2.0 maxes out at 480Mbits. They are fundementally different connections though so if you are networking then ethernet is the way to go. It's best to just use the ethernet because their is really only one use for an ethernet port. The USB connection should only be used if you don't have an ethernet port.

Ah I was talking about the 100 since it's most commonly used by consumers. Is the gigabit being used much outside of commercial/industrial environments, do you know?

Sure most motherboards with built-in ethernet are now gigabit capable!

Yeah, but...aside from a day every 2-3 years when I get a new computer and gotta move data around, I don't see any real use for such a high speed connection.
