Ok, so I have a decision to make. I've been wanting to get MW1 for years (and maybe MW2 since people like the multiplayer), but after the horrors of Black Ops I don't know if I do anymore. That free Blops weekend was almost nightmarish - I hated everything about the game (except the kill cam and stats, those were really cool).

Is the MW series like Blops? If it is, I'm passing. I have BFBC2 to satisfy my online urges and a great number of excellent single-player shooters for offline.

So are people still playing online on MW1, and is it less mindless/laggy and have better gunplay than Blops?

I have Black Ops and MW2 and I used to have MW1 on ps3. I really dont see the difference in any of these games other than maybe some weapons and perks. They all feel exactly the same.

Both games have a very different feel than Black Ops, and better gunplay in my mind. Also they run much smoother. MW1 still has quite a large community. I liked MW2 more, but it has two major downfalls - peer-to-peer connection system instead of dedicated servers, and a poorly implemented system of VAC to try and catch cheaters. Hacking is rampant and so are laggy servers, but I think MW2 is the better game of the two when you join a hacker-free lobby with some decent connections.

My friends and I played hundreds of hours of MW2, and Blops was an extreme disappointment for us all.

I guess I'll wait on any more replies and get MW1 tomorrow then. I don't want to spend cash on both, and MW1's campaign looks really good too.

Thanks for the help. :)

Honestly, MW1 should have been 15$ already. But yes, MW1 is excellent, and future CODs have failed to live up to it imo.

if you hated BLOPS then I doubt you will like the other titles. They're all very similar in the end, especially the actual gunplay.

Got to disagree with you there, i found blops horrible. But really enjoyed MW1 and MW2. MW1 is the better of the 2, but MW2 is also very good, provided you have a large group of friends to play with or can find a lobby without hackers(very hard). IMO when you do find one without hackers the game is fantastic.

They are all fairly similar games. If you liked MW1 then you'll probably like MW2 unless you are on an activision vendetta or you take offense to P2P servers. If you HATE blops well the games are not worlds apart.

This. MW1 supports mods and dedicated servers. MW2 is a joke.

I owned MW1 on 360 when I had it and played it online whenever I could get my hands on a free month or two or live but then I got MW2 on PC. On Steam it says Ive clocked over 140 hours into the game and Id say thats pretty good. I liked MW1 alot and when it comes to MW2 - its biggest fault is the hackers and how crappy the security for the game is. Theres no modding so people arent making new maps and there isnt any signs of it coming back to life. It isnt dead but it isnt revitalizing either. I played Black Ops on 360 and absolutely hated it and apparently its a hacker fest as well. I dont know - I dont see the point in playing CoD games anymore when Activision is just pushing the 360 version and screwing everyone else - even PS3. There are other better multiplayer shooters anyway - like TF2 or BC2. You could get MW1 but if it isnt as alive as it could or has been - whats the point? Its a good SP but ya...

I own and play both of those. I just like to have some variety in what I play.

I could get MW1 for $10 off Amazon or whatever, but it's worth the extra 5 for the Steam support and such IMO. Physical copies are a pain these days since the protection means I can't just burn .mds files and play off those >_>. I miss disk check.

Again, thanks everyone for the help.

Ahhh ok. In that case - MW1 is a better choice and is a more solid, less gimmicky mulitplayer.

You have no idea what you're talking about -- the multiplayer is FAR from dead. Thousands are still online at any given time.

OP I highly recommend COD4, it's a really wonderful game with a thriving multiplayer community and a pretty good singleplayer campaign. :)
