I plan on buying a new monitor very soon.... and am wondering which is considered better for gaming.... a monitor with or without the glossy film on the screen?

All the glossy monitors I've seen in stores have always impressed me the way the colors seem to POP! but I've heard somewhere b4, that your picture isn't as clear, and of course there is the worry that you'll see a glare off of it....

anyone got any suggestions, or care to just give your preference. thx in advance

I guess you could choose glossy if you enjoy seeing your reflection while you play games... I would pick non-glossy. IMO glossy monitors are totally useless.

Hi Ya the best way tochoose a monitor in my opinion is to do exactly what

you have done. Go to a store and look at them. I have read that the glossy

screens seem to show colors a bit more brightly and possibly better contrast.

The thing you have to keep in mind with glossy screens is theycan reflect

a light source behind you. This effect may not be apparent when you look

at them at the store. LCD monitors show the best clarity when run at their

native resolution. For example a 22" monitor will often run at 1680X1050.

This means you will need a graphics card with enough strength to be able

to play games smoothly. If gaming is what you are looking for. For graphics

work you would want the more expensive panels such as S-IPS, which have

better color rendition. Samsung is considereda favorite among gamers.

I prefer non-glossy, but thats because i also do some graphic design work. Gloss tends to increase contrast. It makes colors less predictable from onscreen compared to printed results. Its just another hassle to attempt to color manage my setup.

As a result i've just got used to non-glossy, but theres no such thing as degraded color or vieiwing quality on glossy screens. Its entirely a matter of preference.

don't get glossy all they do is give horrible reflections and if there is light shining into the room it is even worse, non gloss is way better.

i guess im in the minority ere when i say to get glossy. the colours and contrast are better on them. sure they reflect light sources but i think its worth it to get better colour quality for gaming.

Is that actually true, about glossy monitors having better colours and contrast? Professional grade monitors that are used for graphics and photography work are mainly non-glossy.

I'd say it depends on your use.

If you're using it for work, then non-glossy.

If it's pure pleasure then the glossy does have a kind of pop to it. Of course you'll need to look at you room to see what light sources may reflect on it.

Glossy is generally better for movies and you'll find a lot of HDTV's have glossy screens but I definitely say non-glossy for a monitor.

Thx for your input everyone..... I made my decision... I purchased a Samsung 24" NON-Gloss, 50000:1 DCR, 5ms response, native 1900x1200 monitor.

I wanted a 2ms response time, but to get it I had to give up alot in the Contrast area... and my current monitor is 5ms and works great so, meh.
