Buy RAM that matches the speed of your RAM (800MHz from what I read).

Don't buy more RAM, because then you would need another PC to put it in. Computers only support up 4GB of RAM right now.

Ok then, There is a PC with 8GB of RAM, but the TC only supports 4GB. Personally, I think 4GB is enough, 8GB, is overkill.

Oh, and 04dcarraher, nice computer, and hardware you got there.

I have a question is it better hardware wise to have more GB and have slower then have less GB but much faster.

for example DDR 400 4GB vs DDR2 1066 2GB

Some support 16 gigs......enter the mid level Asus p5q anyone?

On topic.....I have 8gigs @ 1000 (factory overclocked) and i didn't see any difference when i had 4. Then again i don't notice a lot of stuff.

To set the record straight, 98% of games get 0% performance increase from getting over 2GB's of RAM. Sometimes you loose performace from having more RAM :/

There really is no "slower ram" and "faster ram". All you need is ram that supports 1:1 fsb ratio with your CPU. Having a cpu fsb of 333 and ram of 667mhz will yield same real world performance as having a cpu fsb of 333mhz and ram of 1600mhz.

Basically, if you do not overclock, ramspeed is NOT a concern.

Also, timings do NOT matter for real world performance. Tests showed no difference between 3-4-4, 4-4-4, 5-5-5, 6-6-6 timings for games. All settings gave identical FPS.

Notice I said "real world performance". By this I mean performance you can actually see and feel. If you were to run memory bandwidth benchmarking software and others of that sort, you WILL see a difference.

8GB is overkilling. Won't do any good...unless few years down the road, game requires more RAM, you could save it until that time =) But memory modules will be much cheaper by then

But I spent silly money on RAM so I could watch benchmarking software flash big numbers on my screen! :(

HOW COULD YOU RUIN MY BIG NUMBERS LIKE THIS

HOW

if its specificaly for gaming id say 2gig would do since on most games theres almost no difference between 2gb and 4gb... so if thats the case id go with faster

but if you use alot of software at the same time u would probably look into more gb ram...

if ur gonna upgrade from what u currently have id tell you dont do it cause 800mhz is fine

I doubt RAM will be "much" cheaper by then, probably not any cheaper, and possibly much more expensive. Hard to see RAM falling much more, at $13/gig for DDR2.

As been mentioned the best is to go 1:1 ratio on the memory, if you have 800mhz ram 5-5-5-15 running thru the ram divider it put some stress on the chipset so therfor a 667 at 5-5-5-15 running 1:1 will give better performance than the 800mhz.

A good way is to get some ram a bit faster than you need and they should be able to run 1:1, cos lowering the mhz usally let you lower the timings @ the same voltage this give the best performance from what i've seen and lernt.

512mb is vista capable, 1gb is vista ready, 2gb is recomended for vista, 4 gb is ownage for vista... so doubling that even more would be?..... overkill :)

I agree with you to a certain extent, but my point is as technology improves, New High-Tech electronics sure are going to be more expensive but the current electronics in due future, is sure to fall in price. You can't expect DDR2 and DDR3 modules to be selling at the same price. Whats' more, if technology advances, and ther is DDR4. WHo knows? (In My Opinion)
