^I disagree with that one, but as for me...Pariah was a huge let down. It was hyped to hell, and released just after HL2 with similar engine (so the comparisons were drawn), but it just failed to deliver.
For me it was Oblivion.
IMO the level scalling absolutely killed the fun for me. I wont say it was a terrible game though. Even though I hated it, I can plainly see it is an absolutely huge and well made game. And it's obvious the reviewers and players alike love it. So I wont run around calling it garbage, I just hated the design descisions they made.
Oblivion sucked balls... also CC3 i dumped it like after 2 days...
WHO SAID KOTOR2? are u nuts? god i loved Kotor1 and 2 one of my favorite games of all time i hate that there isnt more RPGs like that
bl1ndz0r
IMO KOTOR 1 is the best PC game ever made. However Obsidan's KOTOR sucked

No, but it was very disappointing. Obsidian keeps messing up games and never will be as good as Black Isle was.
If you want a great RPG similar to KOTOR try: Jade Empire ( by BioWare the creators of KOTOR 1 ), Fable: The Lost Chapters or Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
BTW, BioWare's Mass Effect will be " Game of the Year " for sure
Dark Messiah even more than Oblivion for me. with Oblivion I'd already played Morrowind, so I knew not to expect to much of what I was really looking for (Morrowind Pwned, but I couldn't get into the story enough to bother, so I just goofed off with the game). Dark Messiah, however, looked to be Half Life 2 but with magic and character customization and such. what I got was an overly short game with a god-aweful story line so full of cheese it had to have taken 30+ cows to complete. the gameplay was completely gimmicky and the customization was more shallow than the average drunk's puddle of sidewalk piss. Dark Messiah was a fun concept but it was only about an hour of fun at most.
I tend to agree with the gamespot reviews most of the time. The only time I've had dramatically different feeling about the game was...dungeon keeper 2, that game should have had a 9! and maybe custom robo for the GC, that games deserver a flat out 1-2.
I loved bioshock and supreme commander AND oblivion, I think they all rock!
(Just finished bioshock)
i would say Sacred, Rise of Nations, Dues Ex 2, Unreal 2, and KOTOR I. They were all just OK not really replayable.MorphMurph
Sacred, Rise of Nations, and KOTORare excellent games! Can't disagree with you on Dues Ex 2 of course :P And Unreal 2 is border line for me. I thought it was fun, but I can see why people would be dissapointed...
Well that's easy, Oblivion. I was so hyped, and so dissapointed.EntwineX
Whos fault is it for Oblivion to be over hyped. Its not Betheseda's fault. Morrowind was by far the better game then Oblivion. Because Morrowind was so popular, Oblivion was automaticly hyped up as soon as it was annouced. It was a disappointed because alot of people expected it to be just as good as Morrowind, of course we were wrong. If Oblivion were to come out before Morrowind, we wouldnt know the difference.
Command and Conquer 3 is the most hyped up game. Im not a fanboy of the command and conquer games so i didnt expect it to be great. Company of Heroes and Supreme Commander are just far better games then Command and Conquer 3.
KOTOR 2 and NWN 2 - pretty big dissapointment, considering obsidian consisted of ex-black isle employees, from where most my favourite rpgs came (fallout, planecape : torment, Bg 2: SoA etc)
Doom3 - prooved to me that id will never create something great like doom 1,2 or quake
Homm 5 - homm 3 was my favourite game, and nival destoyed the series with 5th part
Ya...forgot about that one. Two Worlds was deffinetly a dissapointment for me.dnuggs40
Two Worlds was never hyped up. The game was launched the same day as Bioshock. Bioshock sucked up all the attention of any game that was released in the month of august and the first week of september. Two worlds was more like a memory that never was because everyone was busy playing Bioshock.

It did have some public hype...but more importantly...*I* was hyped for it. I thought it would be an excellent to play until Hellgate: London, though after I played the demo all hopes for that went away.
Oblivion, what a huge letdown.
The thing that probably made me most dissapointed was the fact that every reviewer claimed that it was one of the greatest rpg's ever made. Yet when I say for myself how dumbed down the game was in comparison to daggerfall and morrowind. I just couldn't hide my dissapointment.
Dues Ex - Invisible War,
You make the sequel to the best game of all time, (Not just my opinion, at least one pc magazine actually awarded the game that title a few months back!) And you dumb it down so it can sell well on consoles, and take out the majority of what made the original so great? How could the developers have even thought it would be a good idea? It turned out to be a decent game, but i was immensely depressed with the overall quality of the game.
Oblivion,
For the same reasons everyone else has said, i also was dissapointed with the selection of armor when compared to morrowind, and all the loading really pulled me out of the game.
C&C3,
I'd still much rather play C&C Generals Zero Hour, or heck, even KKnD2. Returning to your origins works sometimes, but the gameplay of Generals is so much more refined and interesting, in my opinion.
Bioshock,
System Shock 2 was amazing in its day. Bioshock 2 became a shooter, and dropped all the RPG qualities that i liked about SS2. Now its not a direct sequel, but we all knew where the inspiration was from. And even though i enjoyed playing it, it wasnt the same level of enjoyment i had from good ol SS2.
Rainbow Six: Vegas,
They took out all the tom clancy and made it a normal shooter, with no planning phase. If i wanted a shooter, i would have bought Halo.
Heroes of Might and Magic V,
They took out all the Heroes of Might and Magic, and made it a generic strategy game. If i wanted a generic strategy game, i would have bought Disciples.
(Are we noticing a trend with Ubisofts latest games?)
I find i'm dissapointed a lot lately.
The first game that came to mind is Bioshock. What an average game.
After that I gotta go with Tiberian Sun. It was very enjoyable, but they hyped it so much that we knew everything about the game and, as a result, there was no suprise. Ooooh, underground flame tank? woopty doo I saw like five videos of it in action before the game was released. See? Stuff like that should be kept secret. James Earl Jones in the FMVs? Should have been kept a secret.

AH yes, DX:IW was the biggest letdown of my life. Its the primary reason why I find consoles and multiplatform games in general objectionable. Seperate but equal!

Oh !!! i could I forget that.
And from what all have you written for it , makes me afraid that this is soon going to be repeated again in future soon : Fallout 3 :(
I'm just so glad to see so many other people that agree that Oblivion was so over hyped and such a let down. So many things were dumbed down it's hard to start on it. I call it a Morrowind for children, but I guess that's what sells... Quake 4 was kind of a let down for me to.

The thing is, Oblivion could have EASILY lived up to the hype if Xbox hadn't been involved in the development process.
Oblivion was raped beyond recognition for the Xbox crowd. Another game that Xbox ruined....
