Since we had a thread about poorly optimized games I thought we should have one about games that are really optimized well.

I can say for a fact that GT Legends and GTR2 are amazingly optimized!  You can see my specs in my sig, nothing to write home about anymore.  Yet I can play these games in 1280x1024 with every single graphics option set as high as they will go and still get 70 to 80 FPS measured with FRAPS!

These games are extremely well made and SimBin must really know what they are doing!

List some you have found to be well optimized.

yeah GTR2 is quite good, I got over 150 fps with everything on max with ultra high AA and AF

But IMO HL2/CSS is optmized better, it seriously spits out huuuuge fps (my personal highest is 1400 fps online) but of course it doesnt look as good as gtr2

command & conquer 3 is amazingly well optimized ... as opposed to it's direct competitor : Sup Commander ... that both have really nice graphics, but C&C3 is more optimized

Yep, HL2 and CSS run perfectly on my PC, 1280x1024, max settings with Vsync. A few other games I have run perfectly at times but get a tiny bit of lag at other times.

I say Unreal tournament 2004 is extremely well optimized.  I get over 400fps with the graphics set maximum with a 7600gs ;)

HL2 Definatly takes the cup IMO, considering its enviornments and effects.

C&C3 isnt as optimized as you might think, its just that because the map sizes are so small you litterally can run the game on a low-end Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM.  The only fancy thing about the game are the graphic settings turned on high (which can take a beast of a vid card).  Not saying it's unoptimized, it runs very good for what it does.  But dont mistake optimization for the fact that the actual game is "smaller" than say SupCom.

And SupCom isn't exactly unoptimized either.  It was a game built to run on next-gen PC technology, like Dual and Quad core CPU's.  It doesnt exactly need a super video card (atleast untill the DX10 patch if you got a DX10 card when it comes out), as it relies more on CPU and RAM.  It runs surprisingly well on my 3800+ 7300GT on a 2v2 on a 10x10 and 20x20 square kilometer sized maps, with 500 units per side.  Its just that the games biggest and most popular feature, the huge 4v4 80x80 sized 2000+ units per side maps were designed to work with technology that IS here, but wont be widely avalable or cheap till a few years from now.

Yes, Doom 3 was optimized pretty well, all of the models are extremely low polygon count, and you can really notice this when you turn bump mapping off. It is pretty amazing what id did with bump mapping, if you turn it off, it will still have the same polygon count, but all of the characters look like chipmunks with mittens. I would also have to say that the source engine is optimized well, as well as Far Cry, Guild Wars, and Rome and Medieval 2 total war. It is amazing to see thousands of detailed soldiers on the battlefield at once at playable framerates.

HL2 is by far the most optimized game there is. I can only hope they do the same with HL3.

That's true, and also because CNC3 has some bs 30fps cap, I always get over 30 fps on supcom with everything maxed, and my CNC3 game never drops below the 30 fps cap, but possibly, cnc3 only has the potential to run at 40fps, while my supcom game runs at 50+, so its very possible cnc3 is not as well optimized...

Hehehehe... Oblivion, totally.

HAHAHAHA! Just kidding. The guys at Bethesda think that Optimization is the name of a transformer. Anyway, definitely HL2. I actually managed to play the game through completely on my old PC, which consisted of a 550mhz P3, 700-something MBs of RAM, and a GeForce FX5500.

Comparing a sandbox rpg to a linear fps? Ever notice how the framerate in Oblivion skyrockets indoors? Thats the only part you could compare to HL2.

Valve seem to take the time to optimize their games the best they can, so I'd say any Source powered game developed by Valve.
Command and Conquer 3 was done pretty well too.

My vote goes to Unreal Tournament 2k4.  I've never been so confused in my life on how so much pretty stuff could happen on my screen while controlling a handful of bots and still move like water.  I thought the game must have installed a new graphics card when I wasn't looking ;)

Second place goes to HL2 (I get some issues in intense firefights).
