Hi, I am buying a gaming rig pretty soon I've been seeing that most people who have a 8800GTX also have the Asus 680 motherboard. However, would it be a good idea (to save money) to get the Asus 650 version instead? What is the difference between the two?

Thanks!

Not an expert on this but i think the 680 has a heat pipe and faster front side bus.

The number 680 and 650 refer to the chipset version. The chipset in a motherboard determines a LOT so the better the chipset the get the more you'l essentially have to work with.  upon looking at the two boards the 680 has 8 channel audio, more RAID capability and a much broader support for different CPU's.
