Motherboard CPU power connector question

On Newegg, when you look at the pcture of the motherboard, the CPU power connector has a black top over half of it. What is that little black plug for?

Newer power supplies come with an 8 pin power connector, but if your power supply doesnt you can just use the 4 pin connector your PSU should have. If you have 8 pin connector just pull the black cap off and plug it in, or just leave it in and use your 4 pin connector.

What are the other 4 pins for anyway?

My mobo has 4 extra pins but I don't use them, I think they are for overclocking but I'm not sure
