Hello, I have all of the parts of my new rig ready, except for the motherboard. I need some advice on a motherboard around $100-160. I've been looking at this one: ASUS Mobo. Any advice is appreciated, I would preffer it to have PCI-E x16 2.0, so it could be future proof. Thanks!

PS: It has to be an Intel motherboard, I have a Core 2 Duo CPU, LGA 775.

the P45 Has TWO pci-e slots for Crossfire. the p43 only has one.

P45 supports a 1600Mhz FSB out of the box. The p43 has to be overclocked to support that.

P45 has 8 sata ports, p43 has 6

P45 supports raid configs. p43 doesn't

and a few other features. Plus imo the p45 is more stabilized when it comes to overclocking.

yea the p43 chipset is no good, It has memory timing issues, When you build a pc the mother board should be you FIRST purchase people ;) For the average setup it will be fine but if you want to run anything over 800mhz memory you have very limited options. You should buy a mobo with the p45 (new) x38 or p35 chipset. The p35 is older but will support crossfire which is great for future upgrades and asus is a great name (the p43 board was a rare error). I would recommend the Asus P5KC, it supports everything like Xfire, DDR3, Quad Core. If you want a newer board I would recomend the Asus P5Q Deluxe, fantastic board (without xfire though). both of these will run you about $130.

I have the Asus P5Q Pro as well. I can't really comment on the OC since i don't do it, but mine worked right out of the box. If i could go back though, i'd probably get a x38/x48 so i could crossfire in the future, without the video cards at 8 instead of 16.

Pfft, Asus is overrated, you can have a Gigabyte or Biostar for less.
