Mount & Blade: Warband

Discuss...

------------------------------------------------------------

Myself, i'm dying for it! Ever since i heard about the multiplayer-features, it has been my #1 "wait-for" game.

Just imagine the clashing of hundreds of soldiers. To charge with your friends into the battle. To lance your enemy or to shoot him off his horse with your bow. To stand together with your friends and valiantly defend the castle-walls.

It is definitely among my top most awaiting games this year. Multiplayer castle sieges sound AWESOME! Plus, it has tons of great additions like improved graphics, new animations and sounds, new faction added, and better kingdom management. All around sounds like a perfect expansion pack. Amazing what that little company did with this game!

Why would anybody hate a game? I understand not liking a game...but hate? That's a pretty strong emotion to have for something like a video game...

Will probably be cheap. M&B is very cheap allready. About 10 $ or somtehing, and expansions are often cheaper.

Why? The developers of M&B are a tiny independent studio that pretty much made a great game by allowing players to "invest" in the game development. You used to be able to buy the beta (once the game was released if you bought the beta it was free) at a seriously reduced price (I think I got it for $10). A few years later they finally released a great game at a reduced price of $30. For the last 6 months or so they have been working on a multiplayer addition, which required the re-write of much of the engine (as M&B was never meant to be MP and was only done because it was a VERY requested feature) as well as improved graphics, new animations, new faction, new kingdom management tools, as well as other additions. I fail to see why this needs to be a free add-on...

i tried the demo.... and as unique as it was, it was also incredibly primitive in many aspects. indie project or not, it IS a selling title. if financial problems were what kept them from incorporating features that a full-fledged retail title was supposed to have, now they should have no excuse to do so. Free, because the studio has made money. i'm sorry, i would be lenient to a basement project. but if it's in the market i think we have every right to demand and expect.

The game delivers, if you didn't like it that's fine...but there's absolutely no reason to make it a free expansion as the first game is great and sold well for such a tiny development. It has a large fan base who all enjoy the game and are more than willing to pay for such a fun, unique game.

Demand and expect a free game huh...lol...geeze what's happening to people these days?

Still $30. Just opened up the old Steam to check. On Amazon it is $13 though. The expansion would probably be around $20. I doubt they will release it for some ridiculous price under $10.

If anybody is wondering here are the new features for Warband:

* - multiplayer mode: up to 64 players fighting on dedicated maps.

* - better AI

* - new diplomatic options, new interactions with Lords

* - better graphic engine, HDR. Characters, weapons and armors will be more detailed

* - new factions, with dedicated units and equipments

* - possibility to recruit Lords as your vassals

* - possibility to marry a Lady

* - more complete management of your fiefs

* - better companions management

* - different sizes for the horses

* - new options for the difficulty level

* - improved combat system

* - more options during sieges

* - improved precision for archers

* - possibility to re-use throwing weapons, arrows and bolts

* - better accessibility for beginner players.

To me it seems like a very nice list of additions for an expansion pack...

Anyways, hoping it's price is set around $20...though ultimately I would probably pay $30 if need be. Also hope they decide to do a combo pack that includes the original along with the expansion for around $40. I think that would help bring in more new players to the fold.

I've never seen any ETA of this expansion does anyone have any details of a possible release date and weather or not they'll do what they did with the main game where you could buy the betas cheaper then for what the full game would cost.

ETA is this summer (from what I have heard), and no, they are not offering the cheaper beta "investment" thing.

*edit*

Ooooh...if this is right more good news...the MP support was upped to 64 players :D

32vs32 castle sieges will be epic!

Cool, seems like things have been awful quiet for the expansion which is odd considering how much buzz there was around the original game. Shame about them not offering the beta deal for the expansion though, was an awesome and unique way of doing business and I got the game for about half the cost.

I am starting to wonder the same thing and your first response dnuggs was exactly what I wanted to say. Here we have a small company doing something completely innovative and doing it well and we hear nothing but complaints about the graphics and how the game wasn't finished. We have heard the same thing about L4D2 and now mount and blade. Its a shame that more people don't want to support a game, and instead just want some free entertainment no matter what it costs someone else. This is part of what drives innovation out of the market and why we get the same old thing over and over.

Yeah it was very cool, I actually jumped on that one when it was like $10...pretty much one of the best $10 I have spent in gaming. And it's actually kind of typical regarding them being quiet...from what I remember that how it usually was. Armagadan (sp?) which is the main guy would be pretty quiet for a while then surprise everybody with a new patch or something like that. The community on the forums are really active though...and there are tons of good mods out now.

Well said man. It's funny too...you hear a lot of the same people crying the loudest about EA and other companies that just shove out sequels and stuff...then they turn around and slam the little guy that sticks their neck out there and try something new and exciting.

Now I don't expect everybody to go out and buy M&B...if the game doesn't appeal to you that's fine. But c'mon...give these guys a little slack...most of the game was developed by one guy and his freaking wife. To be honest I think it's an amazing acheivement that the game turned out as well as it did.

M&B was great, but there are some areas I hope they improve in. I know that you can visit any town/city/castle and go to dungeons, etc. In the original, this didn't really mean anything. You could talk to one person in a town to get a quest or talk to someone in the dungeon so that he could curse you, but they could have gone much further. I want more events, executions, quests, customizing your own castle, etc.

I am a fan of Mount and Blade and visit the official website quite often which I usually never do. I have spend 20$ on this game while it was in beta, its the best 20$ I have ever spend on games, I spend more time playing this than High Rated titles like Oblivion, Fallout 3 and etc. I cant wait for the expansion and I dont mind spending another 20$ for the expansion to support such a great project and this company. Hopefully this company will continue to great great project after Warband. Currently playing M&B Prophecy of Pendor 2.

I liked what I played from the demo, but it wasn't enough to convince to purchase the game, but with the new expansion comming, it looks like I have a new game to get. :)

fair enough. but as i said, cheap or not ( and it's not exactly cheap ), it's a retail title. i'm all good with enthusiastic support and shoulder slapping, but these features should have been in the original game, and i expect Warband to be a free add on or at least very cheap to seal the deal for me.and that's just imo, of course.

it's a worrying sign when we can't judge a product by its own merits. i like how a game is moddable, but i don't think that should be considered into a title's core value. i'm sure with enough mod even Big Rigs can be a good game, so... yea.
