downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and im having trouble adding my email address

i have an msn email adress (*****@msn.com), i have others but ill worry about those later.

How do i add it so i can read my email in Thunderbird, It asks for outgoing servers, IMAP or POP, and incoming servers and i dont know any of that stuff.

can someone explain to me how i can do this.

*Sorry if i am in the wrong place (again) i didnt get any help in OT so this is the closest i could find to PC software discussion*

Thanks

Did you use another email client to download your email to your computer prior to installing Thunderbird? This question I ask because a lot of free webmail services don't necessarily provide POP or IMAP access. Those same services may allow you such access if you upgrade to a higher level account (for $). For example, my Yahoo account is just the free one, and so the only way I can read my Yahoo mail is by logging into the webmail tool on their site. My real email address is from my ISP, and so I happily download my real email using Thunderbird.

Log into your MSN address via the web or the browser, go into the options and see if there is a way you can enable POP forwarding. Usually they have a link that shows you how to set up POP with your account and the settings for your Email Client. (This is just a general idea of what you should do, I'm not sure how it works with MSN.)

I'm not sure what to tell you, then. The settings for your mail server that worked in Outlook should also work fine in Thunderbird. One suggestion might be to start Outlook and then set it to offline mode. Then start Thunderbird and go back and forth between the two to copy the settings.
