I've completed the SP Campaign of BF3... I am currently 25% through the MW3 SP but just the first mission is better than the whole BF3 campaign.

Yes yes, it's totally scripted but who cares, it's EPIC and imo the best CoD campaign so far.

I will move onto MP once done and see how they go there. Wish they would do the climate changes from the SP (MW3) and take it to MP...

I can't believe I'm going to say this but...

Your title is a bit, uhm, tasteless. You may want to think about changing it to something a little less offensive. Not saying you have to or anything (not that I could do that anyway) but I don't think it represents you very well, Felipe. (at least from what I've gleaned from your typical postings here - seems out of character). There are better verbs than rape.

Just my $.02

Done. I too thought it was a bit too full on with the word rape. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

The campaigns in the MW series aren't half bad. They don't make sense some of the time but they play out like a Tom Clancy novel and are a blast to play through. BF3 on the other hand is ultimately going to be about teamplay and not really a campaign (although they did try a little, probably as more of a tech demo).

I find it interesting how the Battlefield series has become "COD-ized", yet partisans of both series remain hostile of each other.

Also 4 out of 10 maps are atrocious.

Both the Spec Ops Survival mode and Missions modes are a lot of fun and if you have friends on Steam, make sure to check it out, especially the survival mode which IMO is more fun than zombies with the weapon station, airdrop station, perk station spread out and being able to give money to friendlies, it's quite interesting, although the difficulty goes up greatly in by wave 7 so you may need to look up some strategies if you want to last long. The MP is very fast paced, I pulled a 76:63 in my last FFA game and the maps I've played so far seem to have no issues of there being any choke points or unfair lines of sight and everyone usually has an equal chance of minimizing their hitbox (i.e being able to get behind nearby cover) which was problematic in previous IW COD's.

Exactly my thoughts. Both BF3 and COD have the worst single player campaigns in the genre. It's just "here's a bunch of enemies who all look identical and have minimal AI. No, no, don't bother trying to kill them, they'll just immediately respawn in the exact same place. No, there's no tactics you can use here or multiple paths, you just go from point A to point B, watch a cool real time event, then go to point C to watch another cool event, and so on and so forth until you beat the game". If you think that either BF3 or COD have good single player modes then you also probably think that Michael Bay is a great director.

I suppose you hate Quake, Doom, Soldier of Fortune etc.

I played for about 80 minutes and so far this is easily the best COD campaign. It's very fast-paced, the levels are more open (reminds me of Call of Duty 2's styIe), a lot of variety and plenty of scenes stolen from movies. I also like the improved sound and the story actually makes sense. The scripted events fit in better, it feels very, uh, fluid.

And they removed the blood jelly! You're no longer blinded as soon as a bullet scratches you.

still stealing movie scenes, eh? Not that I'm saying it's bad or good, just makes me smile kinda that they still do that. I'll always remember how World at War copied the sniping from the fountain while planes cover up the noise part right out of Enemy at the Gates

I was thinking the same thing about the jelly but flashbangs still get you, although enemies don't seem to throw them. Anyway I'm at this part of the campaign now: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594701250519249428/25495214DDD68D15A1E8209B3E1F99EB911FD870/ The entire game overall is much faster paced than COD 1-7, for the campaign, spec ops survival, spec ops missions, and the multi... Some old MWF2 players are complaining it's too fast paced so I'm not sure what to think of that...

I guess that's Raven's influence:P

I'm happy to report that the p2p MP works much better than in MW2 for me. I stumbled upon campers in two FFA matches... That Assault streak package looks really bad. Since the rewards are reset when you die, I believe that will encourage some really awful camping :/ On the other hand the aerial threats seem tamed now.

I am also very upset that all the customisation BLOPS introduced was removed. I loved what Treyarch did with the CODPoints system and all the cosmetic fluff.

MW2 felt instantly broken when I picked it up. MW3 feels more like COD4. I'll stick with it for a while, but I'm fully expecting it to go downhill really fast once people learn the maps and exploits, MW2 styIe.

Never played Soldier of Fortune actually. But Quake and Doom are not like COD at all beyond "you have a gun, you shoot things". Both of those games had VERY complex level designs that were more like mazes. Each level was filled with secrets, and enemies were unique (ie once they were dead they were dead, and there was thoughtful placement of them, not just "we dumped about 36 enemy spawn points in a 50x50 area, have fun"). Meanwhile COD is entirely linear. There's only one route to take in each level, it's very heavily scripted, and there are no secrets beyond a handful of collectibles scattered throughout the game.

To sum it all up in one image, the difference between COD and Doom is:

the Russian campaigns in CoD have been stealing from Enemy at the Gates from the very start.

Just look at the first stalingrad mission in CoD 1.

Also, how many FPS games this year involved New York? 3 at least. Also the new Rainbow 6 by the looks of it.

I don't even...

I really just plain didn't like COD 7 which runs on modified IW 3.0 so it's a little bit different from IW 5.0, else I don't see why I can't put an orange banana on my guns. I'd secretly prefer if Treyarch COD's were called something else much like how MOH games will run on the same engine to BF games but have a different name. MWF3 I noticed actually controls even more smoothly than MWF2 and just looking at this compared to COD 7 makes me cringe at how sluggish those controls feel which even with a mouse+kb to compensate for input lag is still a bit too noticeable and it's one of the nagging issues I've had with games like MOH, BFBC2, BF3, Brink, and especially Homefront. As a gamer who played back in the days when we had hyper responsive controls and when we preferred Unreal Tournament over Quake even though Quake rendered curves better, Treyarch just doesn't cut it and unless they fix that issue in their future releases I'm not sure if I can do more than play their campaign and zombies mode.

I'm currently enjoying both games. BF3 on my pc and MW3 on my 360 (to play with my friends) and I am having a blast with both games. I know people don't want to accept it but both games have their strengths. If I have 10-15 minutes I'm not going to play BF3 because my idea of BF is starting a large conquest map and playing till that ticket timer hits zero. MW3 is perfect for short sittings though. I get one or two TDM matches in and I'm completely satisfied. If I'm looking for a 1 hour+ sitting it's definitely BF3. So it all depends on my mood.

I know that was totally off topic but just wanted to give my two cents on the two games. However on topic there is no question that MW3 campaign is far superior to BF3 imo.

Yes, they might be scripted...

Yes, they might be directed by Michael Bay...

WTF is wrong with that? if they are enjoyable.

Because the action in COD has nothing to do with the gameplay and everything to do with the scripted events. You're essentially watching a movie that wants you to endure a shallow FPS game in between the scenes. In fact, in most cases it's beneficial to you to not waste time trying to fight and only kill the NPCs that are absolutely necessary to progress (there aren't very many and in a lot of sections you don't even need to fire a single shot) since in reality what makes the game progress isn't whether you clear an area (that's almost always impossible) but whether your managed to reach a trigger point that makes the friendly AI advance and let you continue on to the next trigger.

If you want an action-packed FPS that derives its action from the actual gameplay and not the scripted events and cutscenes, look at Half-Life 2 or FEAR. If you want one more recent there's also Hard Reset. Notice how in all of those games it's the fights that are epic, not "OH WOW LOOK AT THAT DID YOU SEE THAT THING THAT JUST HAPPENED OMG IT WAS SO COOL! HEY, QUICK, PRESS X TO DO A REALLY COOL THING OH WOW THAT WAS SO COOL!".

Sure you could say that you like the passive entertainment COD provides, but gaming is supposed to be a form of active entertainment. If you just want to watch marines blowing **** up for several hours go watch some action films. Better yet, go watch the movies COD steals all of its scenes from.

I remember watching a vid on the last COD where the player barley was doing anything and he beat the level (corridor) It was almost like the game was playing itself really.

This. They're both boring linear scripted corrodor shooters. Popamole ****.

Well said, would like to add a bit though (in bold)

They're bothderivative boring linear scripted corrodor shooters. Popamole ****, inspired by the artistic "genious" known as Michael Bay.

I suspect some people ITT don't actually play COD. Otherwise they wouldn't insist it's not a run and gun shooter when the only thing you do is running and gunning. It's actually one of the few series that feels like a blast from the past.

You guys put way too much emphasis on the scripted scenes.

Also the more I play it the more I get strong Soldier of Fortune flashbacks. What the hell?

I've completed the SP Campaign of BF3... I am currently 25% through the MW3 SP but just the first mission is better than the whole BF3 campaign.

Yes yes, it's totally scripted but who cares, it's EPIC and imo the best CoD campaign so far.

I will move onto MP once done and see how they go there. Wish they would do the climate changes from the SP (MW3) and take it to MP...

As I can't be bothered to read all the comments, what's the average amount of play time I can get out of the campaign on MW3?

What's the verdict on each MP? I will move onto them once I finish the SP MW3 Campaign...FelipeInside

MW3's SP is much better but BF3's MP is a lot better than it. MW3 is the same MP as MW2. BF3 took risks to change itself around and come into the new age. CoD is still in the past. For me I think BF3's MP is much better than it and I am enjoying it a lot more

It's all right.

It's like a high-school who has only watched Michael Bay movies came up with the plot, setting, characters, and anything regarding authenticity.

Black AK-47 used by Russian spec ops in the near future? Magical cruise missles that with one code can sink an entire navy? It's laughably bad.

Which is exactly the kind of coherency present in a Michael Bay movie. Throw out logic and just do what looks cool

...since in reality what makes the game progress isn't whether you clear an area (that's almost always impossible) but whether your managed to reach a trigger point that makes the friendly AI advance and let you continue on to the next trigger.gameguy6700
I always hated this about the COD campaigns, in original MW I made the mistake of trying to clear each area and realized that the enemy has infinite respawns. To heck with it, just run to the next trigger and advance the story.

However on topic there is no question that MW3 campaign is far superior to BF3 imo.

this is the exact same way i feel^^^ i got bf3 on my pc aswell and then i got mw3 on my ps3 so i canplay with friends . and btw mw3 campaing has to better than bf3s i couldnt even play it anymore after i slept thru that jet mission

I would agree with that. But really, who bought BF3 for the single player campaign?

In all honesty, for me (and most people I'd assume), choosing MW3 over BF3 because it has a better SP campaign is like choosing a Ford Focus over a Ferrari 458 because you prefer the location of the spare tire.
