I really like ARMA 2 as a military game/simulator like how it was intended to be.

I also really liked Operation Arrowhead, but since DayZ and Wasteland, it has been very hard to find really good, normal Arrowhead servers. I am afraid that mods like this will come out for ARMA 3 and transform the community like Arrowhead. I know that now there aren't DayZ servers for Arrowhead because of the standalone release, but it is still almost all Wasteland.

What do you guys think? Will the same thing happen with ARMA 3? I really want to preorder it and get the alpha, but I don't want to spend the money if it is just going to turn into DayZ, Wasteland, or whatever else could release for it.

DayZ is going to be official so I think once that happens that community will finally split from the real ArmA 2 community.

I love DayZ, but it's effect on the ArmA community really sucked.

he DayZ standalone will alleviate a LOT of that. And Arma III will have a huge plethora of normal servers I'd imagine, I wouldn't worry too much. Once people get tired of that mods will kick in but I wouldn't expect anything on the scale of DayZ or Wasteland to happen straight away.

Your fears are my desires, I didn't like vanilla Arma 2 much but I've poured a ton of time into the mods for, especially Dayz and Wasteland. I expect I'll feel the same way about Arma 3.

I did end up getting it and (so far) almost all of the popular servers are Wasteland. *sigh*

Why not just get ACE and the necessary mods and play? It improves the game substantially.

Been playing in a server called Tier 1 Operators, they have their own custom coop missions, PvP matches within an area (airfield, towns etc.). I'm having a blast with it. I tried the Wasteland thing, didn't like it.

Wasteland is annoying, didn't even enjoy it when I played it.

My favourites so far are Blitzkrieg 32 & Siege at Camp Maxwell.

DayZ is going to be official so I think once that happens that community will finally split from the real ArmA 2 community.

I love DayZ, but it's effect on the ArmA community really sucked.

Wasdie

did you check out the steam board? people are posting comments suggesting Day Z is the only reason people brought Arma2 in the first place.

Yeah and it's extremely toxic. Some people even think ArmA 3 is a mod for DayZ (I've seen it a few times now).

Though from what I see, ArmA 3 is so much better well rounded and streamlined than ArmA 2 that it will appeal to a larger audience and should be able to stand alone. They made so many right choices with the game. The PvP is actually fun now, the shooting mechanics actually feel satisfying, the audio doesn't suck, and the game is smooth and responsive like a game should be.

It's a huge step forward for military sims.

I'm still working on getting decent FPS. Right now it's all over the place for me :(

The first day when the alpha launched I saw a lot of PVE servers or Escape from Stratis servers. Many of the people playing were people who spent their whole time playing DayZ/Wasteland and they were quite enjoying. I think the user friendly interface and simplified controls would attract a lot new comers into playing vanilla Arma 3.

Of course it would, but then you will have an influx of people that only care about pointing a gun and shooting at stuff. taking the time to learn all the controls takes the game into a whole other level.

Yea I ended up buying it for the cheap price and not actually play it until mods start showing up but I'm really enjoying the game by itself thanks to how much smoother everything is. Even a ordinary game mode like team death match feels fresh and exciting thanks to the excellent gameplay mechanics.Â
