Thus far, I've put approximately 40 hours into Bad Company 2's multiplayer, but I'm only a level 10 (Sergeant I). Is this bad? Should my rank be higher considering the amount of time I've put into the game thus far?

Well I was average at the game and I had around 14 in about 25 hours ( including the sp campaign which took I dunno 4 hours or so)....so yeah :P, good players go even higher in just 25 hours.

Well, I should mention that my internet connection blows, so I lose connection in the middle of most of the online matches I play in. The 40 hours I mentioned is an estimate I took from Steam. Steam measures the amount of time you've got the game running, irrespective of whether you finish a match or not.
meh who cares? dkdk999This. I've put in 130 hours according to Steam and I'm 24, not sure how that stands but I'm quite fine. I'm not a good player anyway.

Mine isn't much better. It's only a 0.60. However, if it weren't for the constant disconnects I suffer, I'm pretty sure it would be higher. A good portion of the time, I can earn a KDR of at least 1 if not 2.

AFAIK you receive the points for the kills even if you leave or disconnect in between, happens to me as well but I get the points(On one game I had 1k points as engineer and unlocked a gun, I pressed the shutdown key in between but after I restarted I still had those points and the gun).rank 29 after 77h with KDR of 1.15 (PC)
rank 26 after 46h with KDR of 1.49 (PS3)
it's easier to get kills on PS3 cos people don't move so much :P
Stop worrying about your KDR, I see a lot of people with negative KDR top the scoreboard all the time. If you want to level faster I would recommend being a medic and stay away from the wookie class. alexlmtHeh, agreed. I leveled fastest with a medic, M60 and healing stuff. Although these days I'm a mad engineer with shotgun usually, or trying my best and most favorite AN-94 + 4x Optic zoom combo.

I normally play with the Assault class.

Get Assault maxed out. It's awesome :D
Speaking of maxing, if it matters to you, I also have all the Assault and Recon equipment.

The only ones I haven't maxed out are Engineer and the vehicles weapon ones. Honestly in assault it doesn't get better after AN-94 Abakan.Stop worrying about your KDR, I see a lot of people with negative KDR top the scoreboard all the time. I assume you mean recon :) Rushing in to the objective with your team, popping motion sensors and taking people out with the shotgun seemed to be surprisingly effective. As already stated, KDR's not a big deal since you're not playing TDM.. I think average SPM (Score Per Minute) is probably a good tell of how you're doing. Mine is 305.

How do you determine you SPM?

Rank 24 in about 30 hours. Though that was right when the game first came out, I jumped in the other day and was sucking majorly.

Strange steam says 130 hours, this stats page says 90 hrs! You can see I really love medic, rank 33 and have unlocked barely anything haha. Engineer and c4 Recon they way to play!
Overal KDR says 2.28, mainly due to crappy assault and medic.

Aha! I have 122. :D :D :D
147 hours and rank 37. Depends on how you play. I spent most of my time just getting Gold medals with every weapon, even the crap ones so sometimes my game score wouldn't be that great but then I would get heaps of points at the end of the round for getting weapon medals.

Im 60 hours in and level 23, Warrant Officer III. Not sure how that compares.
The best way I've found to rank up is by choosing the right class and gaining badges on your guns.
Medic and Assault are the big classes for earning points. Assault gets points for dishing out ammo bags. Every time it's off cooldown, throw one out. The locations might not make much sense at times but do it anyway, the constant stream of ammo refills add up. And there's not a lot of people playing assault now so your bags will be saught after. Squad hop until you find one that sticks and works together. Giving them ammo gets you twice the points.
With medic, same rules apply as above - the best scores come from your squad - but keep throwing bags out whenever you can. And rezzing people gets big points on top of the trickle from the medic bags. It's very easy to clock up some high scores as a medic just rezzing everyone around you.
Recon has the spotter add-on for your scope and the motion grenandes which can rack up some nice points through spot-assists but not in the same league as the medic or assault.
The hardest class to rank up with is Engineer. Whilst they are arguabley the best combat class it's hard to get extra points from repairing - it's too situational. It can come into it's own playing with a buddy though where you both make a point of grabbing the same vehicle. 2 engineers in a tank working together is a force to be reckoned with.
On all classes your finger should make good use of the Q key. Always spot people and vehicles then when they die you get 10 for a person and 20 for a vehicle. If you see the other teams UAV always shoot that for an easy 100 points for half a mag.
Other than that look at your weapons.
To get the big scores you need to go for the bronze, silver and then gold badges. look at the weapons you have unlocked and go through them in turn levelling the badges up. From the main menu go to mutliplayer menu then weapons and gadgets. From there choose a gun and it will tell you how many kills to go until the next badge. Go through them in order finsihing the badges off then keeping doing it to clock up gold badges and your score will rocket (no pun intended).

Aha, you guys just need to find the right build for you. I recommend Medic with M60, RDS if you want to kill more than drop packs and revive teammates, or use the medpack upgrades if you plan to heal more than shoot... Assault with AN 94 and RDS, just peeking and shooting anyone you see, recon with shotgun or VSS and dropping motion sensors everywhere, or engineer with UMP and Gustav or RPG. :D Mine used to be around 380 but now that I tend to whore with the AN 94 more often than playing the other ****s, I get more kills but less points overall..Please Log In to post.
