Don't bother getting the i7 on socket 1156, it is a waste of money. Either get an i5 on that socket or get a socket 1366

Or get an AM3 socket build. You'll probably be able to get a 5870 with one, which is faster than the 5850.

Agreed. He could get an i5-750 2.66 GHz for about $100 less and overclock it. Other items missing are as follows. HDD, OS, DVD drive, heatsink/fan (friends don't let friends use stock coolers), mouse, NIC card (or wireless device). Other than that it's a solid build. I would definitely recommend that he download the Asus motherboard manual and confirm that all devices are compatible, especially the memory

Have him build an AMD based system instead which will pretty much get the same performance as an i7 for a lot less. :)

If the HDTV is some rubbish 720p peice of junk, he is going to want a new monitor, a 1080p 22" or bigger. And get a nice one at that.

Here's my crack at it. I don't have 8gb of ram, a Corsair PSU, nor the HAF 922, but I personally think this would be faster:

and the Windows 7 family pack you chose. It comes to 1414.30 with shipping, insurance and taxes for the build, and 237.20 for the Windows 7 family pack. The total would come to 1651.50. Yes, it does go 51.50 over budget, but this will last you for a REALLY long time. The two 5850's in the build are much more powerful than a single 5870, and the power supply is good as well.

I would never recommened going for this socket. Either get the big boy socket LGA 1366, or AMD's AM3.

first piece of advice, dont use newegg.ca, their shipping prices are insane. second, use BestDirect, free shipping on prices over $500.

Surely you are not talking to me. I have an i7, though imo and many others the LGA 1156 is the last road one should take.

i7 920 is too expensive for a small budget and amd cpus are not the bests in compare to intel cpus, so it is better to take the middle way i5
