Hey folks, my parent's 10 year old Dell Dimension 5100 basically won't turn on, there is a light on the motherboard so i think power is still reaching the power supply. Now the funny thing is that when the computer was last shut off, it wouldn't turn off by just clicking on shut down but it turned off when clicking on restart. Cheers guys.

10 year old dell, you can try to fix it, but it will be a nightmare especially if you haven't got the right parts.

I would first say the power supply and then the motherboard. In any case if it's a standard psu you can change it, but if that doesn't work, i would just throw the dinosaur away.

Good, it deserved to die. On a serious note i would say it's just tired and worn out and the PSU has become too degraded to work. It's something like 20% degradation per year so i'd definitely check the PSU first.

Most likely the power supply, but a new power supply is worth more than the pc, so I wouldn't bother.
