Hi, I have a new computer by HP. It has 2 gigs of ram a 350 gig hard drive,a core 2 duo E6550 processor and an Nvidia geforce 7500 LE turbocache. I am having numerous problems when gaming for example counter strike source is quite choppy and when I play a game like guild wars my FPS will be on 60 and then suddenly drop to 30 and below..... Can someone please tell me whats going on because I am clueless. My computer seems to have no spyware or viruses what so ever. I usually run about 50-54 processes. please help me thank you.

You have a cruddy video card, that's the problem. It steals some of the memory it uses from your system memory. This makes it slow and can get pretty bad if your RAM usage is 100%. Try clearing your taskbar of everything before playing.

I would recommend getting a new video card, though. Would you be able to buy one? If so, what is your budget.

I think the first thing you should check is your temp's. I haven't been thrilled with the cooling on the HP's, as they are small compact and typically have the worst cooling issues I have ever seen. Also, I'm not too sure about the 7500LE. You might want to look into that as well. If possible upgrade your video card, but check your for cooling issues first.

No one makes a video card with a performance level indicator in it smaller than "600" that can play games. The minimum card from the nVidia 7xxx series that works is the 7600 GS. Not only is Turbocaching a tipoff to a junk card, so is the "LE" in its name ("Lousy Edition"). There is nothing you can do with crap like a 7500 LE other than rip it out and smash it to smithereens. It's worthless to a game player.

It's a waste of time worrying about overheating until the LE crap is disposed of.

CORRECTION: LE stands for Looser Edition, not Lousy Edition. i've learned that the hard way.

ok that sounds fairly simple but I dont really have a budget as the computer cost quite a lot. I would only pay about 50£ for a graphics card which probably isnt enough. Also one last thing is the processor on my computer any good?(core 2 duo E6550) Thanks very much for the help :)

You can't have both. It will either be cheap and unable to play games, or it will cost more than you like, but that's what you must pay if you want to play. Cheap and PC Gaming in the same sentence is an Oxymoron.

Your processor is great. If you have the money though, try getting a 7900 GS or x1950 PRO for a GPU. If thats too much, then the 7600 GT looks sufficient for the games you want to play.

Get the 2600XT; the 2600PRO isn't worth it.
