My E660 is only running at 1,2 ghz instead of 2,4ghz according to CPU-Z ( http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/191/cpuz2cw8.png ).

It's not only in CPU Z I can see the problem also in 4 other programs which do the same thing, and even when I turn on my PC, it says something like "E6600 2,4ghz @ 1193 mhz, 9x133mhz". The problem is also in games like TF2 where it doesn't matter if eveything is on high or low, the framerate still drops to around 15-20 fps when there's a lot going on. (I have an 8800GT and 2gbram and XP).

I have checked the BIOS and everything looks fine there, and I've tried turning Speedstep off but it didn't help. My motherboard is a Micro Star International MS-7267 with an Intel i945G/GZ chipset.

Please help me, this is driving me insane!

Looks like your bus speed got halved somehow. You can reset the CMOS to see if that fixes the problem, or manually adjust the bus speed to 266MHz.

In the bios, the bus speed is at 266 MHZ.

And what is the CMOS?

Also, can it be the motherboard? I have Vista OEM version and I would like to install that now, but if I have to change the motherboard I won't install it now 'cause it can only be installed on 1 motherboard :(

Go to your BIOS, set your multiplier to x9 and turn off "C1E", that should fix it.

C1E lowers voltage and clock speed to maintain low temps and stability and is supposed to high it when it's needed. It works pretty **** though and mostly will just kill your performance.

His multiplier is fine, its the bus speed that's dropping. And C1E doesn't affect the bus speed, only the multiplier.

It should be in the advanced CMOS options. It's something like "Enhanced halt state (C1E)"

Got the latest version of CPU-Z? Sounds like it could be a problem with CPU-Z rather than your processor.

Got the newest version, I've even tried 3 or 4 other programs that shows the same thing and my games also run worse than they should, especially RTS games like Supreme Commander.

Try running Prime95 and seeing if the clock speed kicks up. If it doesn't, this problem is out of my league.

It's a program that will run your CPU to 100% to look at load temps and stuff. Or you could try ortheus.

Any of them will work for what you're doing. And Prime95 basically just searches for Prime numbers. It wasn't actually designed as benchmarking software, but works very well for that purpose.

You don't even need to run it for 15 minutes. One minute should be more than enough, just keep watching CPU-Z (and just in case, it would be a good idea to use Speedfan or Coretemp to monitor your temperatures as well).

Nothing has changed in CPU Z.

Can it be some sort of virus or error in the Windows that makes it run slower?

You sure you've set the FSB at 266, and it's not the memory if you have 533mhz? On MSI's site it says you have to manually set the FSB at 266 by overclocking it, because it doesn't officially support that FSB. So you need to set the clocking options to manual, and raise it to 266 if you haven't. Leaving it on auto will default to lower FSB's.

If you've already done that, check for BIOS updates, that would probably solve it.

Did you disable the fullscreen logo in the bios if it has one? When you first boot up, it should display what frequency your cpu is running at, and if overclocking failed it will notify you, and set it at the default bus speed.

Dont do any crazy moves or you are going to destroy your PC. You dont seem that you are that fimiliar with OCing, so you need to read some at least befoer you do any thing. Anyway, having 532mhz is crazy if you dont have the parts from Mobo or even coolers to handle that. You cant just bump up your FSB easily, it all should done in small increaments such as 5~8Mhz and running tests to check the stability before moving on to the next increase

Maybe it's unable to handle 266. Try setting it all the way down to 200. That is officially supported, and then your cpu should be at 1800mhz. If it does that, you probably need to up the NB voltage to get to 266.

What I meant was, since it's showing double as many MHZ in the bios as I actually get, I could just double it in the bios and then get the amount of mhz I would normally get.

Already tried flashing the bios, I'll try that CMOS thing.

And what is NB voltage? Might it help if I used a better PSU? The one I have now is 400mhz but I could install one with 700.

Often times you need to raise the northbridge voltage when you overclock your FSB, which is what you are doing to get to 266mhz since it was not intended to run at that spec. I see from your screenshot it is at 1.55v, where is that on the available options, lowest, middle, highest?

Oh wait I don't even think you can change it, it's greyed out.

I doubt it. Just try doing the 200. That should give a clear indication if something's f'ed up, or your board just doesn't do 266.

According to this, it should be able to have a FSB at 1066. Couldn't it be that the motherboard is broken somehow and needs to be replaced?

Dude do what ppl have suggested before jumping to wild conclusions. Reset the cmos by removing the mobo battery and and power cord for 30sec. Or you can find the jumper but that's more of a pain especially if your case is small. This puts everything in your bios at default, so see what it sets your fsb and cpu freq at. Make sure you set the time and date correctly before going into Windows.

If it's still jacked after that, try lowering the fsb down to 200. Should have no troubles at that and your cpu should be 1800mhz. If that checks out, start increasing it by 10mhz till you find the limit.
