Lol awesome background.
Thanks though I scabbed it off somone else and resised it :)Skrat, is that ObjectDock?Ein-7919Yup, its the 'alienware' object dock - and a alienware window blinds skin - that is supposed to come with Alienware systems.
Unused ram is useless ram. Why wouldn't Vista use that if no other program does? When a resource heavy program like a game needs those resources, Vista gives them. After playing a game the memory usage is down to 35-40%.RK-Mara
So that means 800 mb of RAM are used by the Vista while you game? Hmm, XP here and 2 gigs of RAM. 350-400 when I game. I'm not critisizing Vista or your choice of OS, you're probably satisfied with it's performance and resourse-usage, but I think I'll wait a little more with the upgrade.
We don't have many Chinese members here. Such a fantastic place, I just visited Beijing, Xi'an and Luoyang a while ago.

China...fantastic place....I must live in alternate reality China.

Politics aside, you shouldn't forget China's historic and cultural value.

Whoa!
I see alot of people having desktops like these .. "modded" so to speak, where the icons, and overall appearance is completely changed. Is this just a theme or do you actually costumize every aspect? How do you do it?
Also, how much does something like this affect the overall performance of a PC .. especially during gaming :D

Not sure what all he's using (looks like a uxtheme patch and one or two other things) but such desktop modifications really shouldn't have any effect on system performance.
My desktop (a few posts up, which is Vista by the way) is really heavily modified and all of the programs I utilize (ObjectDock, Rainmeter, Switcher) consume only around 20MB of system memory combined.
Also, despite what some people might recommend, using WindowBlinds isn't a good idea. You can generally achieve the same visual theme changes with a uxtheme patcher and it'll consume far fewer resources..
i use Rocketdock and avedesk , and the theme is area04 , the icons are from difrent web sites , it eats 20 mb of ram ; it dosen't afect the games performance i have a p 2,6 gh, 1 gb ram , ati 9550 256/128 .
i don't use ico files just png files 256x256 format :P
It's not that the emulate it but more emulate the desktop...:PI can't help but find it highly amusing that PC gamers dog on the Mac platform, and then go out of their way to emulate it. :P

Just a little observation, that's all. Microsoft themselves have been attempting to emulate the Mac OS for years.
I guess what I'm saying is: Can't we all just get along?

Don't get me wrong, I love Macs.[QUOTE="JN_Fenrir"]It's not that the emulate it but more emulate the desktop...:P if i had a mac, running a mac os, its interface better be bloody good since i will be spending more time looking at the desktop than playing games. :)I can't help but find it highly amusing that PC gamers dog on the Mac platform, and then go out of their way to emulate it. :P

I used to have all sorts of desktop enhancement tools (Windowsblinds, ObjectDock, uxthemes) from Win 98 to XP. With Windows 7, not so much. With Macs, I had Kaleidoscope with OS 9. But once OSX came along, no need for enhancers except to get rid of the candy stripes. At some point, I didn't care anymore.

I keep all the games hidden in a toolbar within the Taskbar. No need for docks.
I do keep screengrabs of desktops from certain events.
My desktop during 9-11:
W2k, P3-733, 768mb RAM, ATI Radeon (original/7200). This was just before I assembled a new Athlon XP 1700+ PC:

Haha, check the post dates..this thread is ancient :P
I ditched the rice a long time ago..the novelty wears off quick. Start menu search really makes desktop icons irrelevant anyway.
Desktop looks more like this these days:

Totally agree with you - docks, icons, sidebars, rainmeter - all that stuff looks nice but practically and functionally is so inefficient that the start menu is your best bet. Win key + few letters = done. Anyway here is my last wallpaper that I made an effort to look pretty:
