My little experiment with crysis proves that higher resolutions are useless.

It's pretty simple.I first ran the GPU benchmark with 1024x768 and 4xsuper sampling AA.Then i ran the GPU benchmark at 1280x960 with normal 2xAA.I got the same no. of fps in both of these situations.

10x7 with 4xsuper sampling looks "considerably better" than 1280x960 with 2xAA and super sampling in 12x9 sends the fps down to unplayable levels. So why play in a higher resolution again?

It must also be noted that when running in same settings 12x9 looks considerably better than 10x7 but when you put SS in 10x7 it completely changes it.Almost jaggieless trees while in motion.

I also know that supersampling does not scale well in every game but it does in crysis and having the ability to play in a lower res comes in very handy with cryssis.

So why play in a higher resolution again?

Stranger_7

Because many of us have LCD screens that can't run 10x7 without some nasty side-effects.

Even if i put them there will be no point cuz the real difference is only seen while in motion.

No you seriously cant.

Why dont you run crysis in supersampling and see for yourself what difference it brings and how pictures cannot do it any justice whatsoever?

Ya i said not every game scales well with it if you didnt read.

And secondly you dont need supersampling in COD4 because of the way the graphics are.Games like crysis and oblivion benefit alot with super sampling.

My friend used to play ArmA at 1024x768 w/ 4xAA. He stoped when he kept identifing targets wrong, something that will get you killed a lot in that game. The point is, it's extremely difficult to see things as a distance at such a low res. I'd take 1600x1200 at Medium settings over 1024x768 on High w/ 4xAA any day.

Who gives a rat's ass about CS? You do know that there have been other games released in the last 10 years?

As for seeing thing at a distance in Crysis, have you ever flown a helicopter or tried to shoot one down from across the map with a gauss tank?

Wait wait wait...are you Thinker_145????

[QUOTE="NamelessPlayer"]I personally prefer higher shader quality and more effects at the expense of resolution(I run a High+Very High mishmash at 1024x768 ), but unlike me, you're using a LCD display and not a CRT, which means awful image quality at non-native resolutions(unless you're using a Gateway XHD3000, which you certainly aren't since that's a 2560x1600 native display). I guess you'll just have to lower your graphics details to compensate for the higher resolution. (Now, if nVIDIA and ATI would just produce some truly next-generation cards that can bring this game to its knees...)Stranger_7
Ya man i also play in 10x7 with my 640GTS ofcourse on a CRT.That way i am able to put on very good frames and settings.

Thinker has a CRT, GTS 640, and praised CRTs ability to play low res with higher settings. "Stranger"...get it? Also a new member...

You are trying to prove a point but dont want to support it?

Im not trying to prove you wrong im just saying that you should bring some proof that you did the experiment.

So lets do this, do the test again then take a few screenies to show us that you are right. :)

Ya high on that res is difficult with an 8800GT and playing on a non-native res on a LCD sucks.

You can try playing in windowed mode.Or you can buy a CRT monitor that will allow you to play in a lower res and high settings with no hassle.

1024 x 768 is with 4xSSAA is equivalent to 2048 x 1536. Somehow I doubt you get good performance at such a large resolution.

Huh?

As i said there is no lieing involved here as everybody can see that whether what i am saying is true or not by themselves running the game in the settings i used.

I still don't know where you're coming from with this. It's not possible to see what you can at a higher resolution, so why run it? Sure, it looks pretty and runs well, but there's a reason for that: there's barely anything on screen. You're cheating yourself out of a large advantage by playing at such a low res.

You cannot deny, you're Thinker_145,unless you can deny with some undeniable proof.

I think i should run Crysis on 800x600 and say,1152x864 or even 1280x720,just to prove you wrong 8) But i don't feel like it yet.

I said it once, and I'll say it again. Crysis has a poorly optimized engine. Farcry 2 on the other hand, although a different engine, but somewhat similar, will most likely be more optimized. How about this, play Farcry 2 when it comes out and if it is running better, at the same level of quality, we will then be 110% sure that Crysis is/was poorly optimized. Don't get me wrong, that even right now it is poorly optimized.
