I built a new computer back in October and it is already starting to die. A week ago I came home from school and I have no idea what happened to it. It would turn on then off then on etc by itself. When I did get it to work it wouldn't turn off properly. It would say it's shutting down and then the screen would go blank and it would stay on. I'd have to hold the power button to turn it off. I tried everything and got fed up so I decided to do a clean install of Windows 7. Didn't work. Now my computer crashes about once an hour. HELP I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON IT!

Now at winter I'd go with spending 10$ on some electricity/lightning protector to plug my PC to it.

How can you ask us for help if you don't even tell us what kind of PC you have? Right now it sounds like a power supply problem. But we need to know every single component you have so we can be better informed with our guess.

I would think the same thing without some specs.

Try clearing the non-volatile RAM on your motherboard. Usually it has something to do with removing and re-inserting a jumper. Your motherboard manual should tell you how.

If that doesn't work, there are standard troubleshooting steps. Reseat all cables and components. Run the computer a few days with some stuff disconnected, like optical drives. See if that makes a difference.

Well the power supply is more than good enough, but it could be defective.

Try reseating components like RAM and graphics card, replug all cables etc

Do like they say, try reseating everything. Pull, replug. Run a scrub just in case something is left over somewhere. Try something like pchealthboost.com. Then run all the free online tests. Make sure your drivers are all up to date too, check your VM settings. See if you can narrow it down to one thing. Just systematically run through every thing it could be. But it sounds like it's going to come back around to being the powersupply. Sorry.

Ok so this is a spammer. Please for the love of god do not go to pchealthboost.com. though kudos to at least making your spam believable.

Actually, mr. Judgy... I'm -not- a spammer. I paid and used pchealthboost and it worked for me. No malware, no adware, no crap. It cleaned it up. People say Ccleaner is better, but Ccleaner tended to eat my passwords every time so I don't recommend it to anyone or use it anymore.

But hey, thanks for saying I'm a really GOOD spammer... at least I know if I ever want to give up being a business manager I have a fall-back as a spamvertiser! :D

I stick with my previous statement, which, thanks to Ivan there, you can read in it's entirety even though it was deleted and marked as spam... *rolls eyes*

To the victor.. go the brains... *golf clap for Ivan*

Guess I will be deleting my membership from the forum now! Later y'all!

LOL! Well this explains a lot about your knowledge. All you have to do is UNCHECK the password tab and it won't "eat your passwords".

Either bad VRM on the mobo or defective power supply.

Don't worry guys. It's fixed. Turns out my mobo connector had come loose.

Sorry for wasting your time.
