(re post cause i posted in wrong topic)

Just bought a new rig , these are the specs :

-Core2duo E6600 2.4ghz

- 8600gts MSi Overclocked Edition 256mb ,CoreClock 800

- 2 gig ram

- 250 gig hard-drive

-450 watt(?) powersupplie

My question is , is it normal i get sluttering in these games :

-battlefield 2 on high i get fps drop for half a second every min the same with Day of defeat Source and CS Source but little less.

-The sims 2 when i zoom in and out i get 1 second slutter

- Oblivion on high i get, when outside good enought fps (40) but every min i get just a second or so a frame skip .

Is it Vista? , Should I go back to XP? ,

My ram is never fully used neither is my Cpu power ... I dont get it somone told me he had an ati x1650pro with vista and didnt get any lag at all ! So what is it??? Plz post up suggestions to clear this up, theyWILL be appriciated.

The GPU may be slowing you down a bit, it's not exactly the best. Those 8600 series are only 128 Bit, so I think you may want to try to lower You're settings a bit perhaps. But I would think that it can run CSS without problems, Personaly from what I have been told and have bought I would have gone with a X1950Pro or the like if you can affford an 8800 series.

Those mid-range 8 series realy do suck. I dont see any other parts in question, so I dont know what else it could be.

Indeed it is, I agree with the two abouve posters, that card is not at all good. If your in a pickle with the prices, may i recomend a DX9 card suck as the 7900gt or the 1900xtx.

All of you guys pretty much lost your credibility when you say the 8600GTS is so horrible that it can't play those games on high-max settings.

Try getting the latest drivers or try the beta drivers.

What resolution are you playing at?

The 8600GTS shouldn't be struggling with BF2 or the Sims. Oblivion, maybe, but still...

What resolution are you gaming at?

You should be creaming that resolution, honestly.

Hm... Try that dual booting solution or a different set of drivers.

you should check the jumpers on your drives, see if anything is overheating, and make sure everything is getting enough voltage.

If your computer is set up properly, and is 100% stable, you shouldn't get any stuttering or skipping.

I didn't know CD/DVD/HD drives still used jumpers... I didn't see any on the back of mine...

The best thing I can think of is that its running vista with a 8600. Try dual booting, if that doesn't work then check the memory. 8800s run HOT, check the temps on that, it could be the memory on the card getting too hot. If its the memory on the card, there are good heatsinks for memory.

If your using a sata1 drive with a sata2 controller setting the 150mbs jumper might help stuttering, If its a ide drive, some mother boards don't like cable select, setting master/slave can smooth things out. sometimes the other way around.

8600GTS is almost as fast as the 7900GT..
what would be the point in spending money on such a small increase in performance?

DX9 games should be play on XP, while DX10 for Vista, so its better to have a dual boot option. Install XP first on one partition, then install Vista on a separate partition. Oh, and I don't think the 8600GTS is going to cut it, atleast 8800gts 320mb.

You have a great processor, I have the same one. I would look into overclocking it, overclocked mine to 3.2ghz no problem, this can GREATLY increase performance. The stuttering you are noticing is your processor struggling to load new areas and new textures and models. Your video card just flat out sucks. With an overclocked processor, you should be able to run any game out today on max settings with that card, but you should just save up around 200 bucks and get an 8800 gts when crysis comes out, which your system will easily run with max settings if you get that card. Don't worry, I have also spent money on upgrades that I realized later weren't that good,/

I agree, The 860GTS is a decent card for a budget builder and shouldn't be having problems witht eh Sims 2 or BF2.

I hear this too often, and it's usually not the issue, especially here. Most of the time it's a simple bottleneck or slight conflict. My original X1650 Pro system was running CrossFire and the frame rates were incredibly sluggish. Someone told me that my cards sucked, but after some benchmarking and diagnostic testing, I discovered that one of the graphic cards was not in sync with the other. I had to manually apply the monitor driver to both cards even though only one was connected. Then I matched refresh rates with my monitor and cards. The performance increase was huge, and games that ran sloppy had performed without a hitch. I ended up upgrading my cards to XT anyway.

Don't get carried away. Vista shouldn't cause you ANY problems with a rig like that. All these haters have probably never used Vista before.

True. Although this is pushing it, the PSU should still suffice depending on the other devices connected.

- Not enought cpu , overclock from 2.4 to about 3.2

-somthing about the hardrive

-the video card not being good enought

- not enought power in power supply (i have 450w)

-some overheating issues

I will try tomorow windows Xp and post up if it fixed my ''slutering'' in games , I tryed overclocking my Cpu but I get the blue screen of death when I overclock it , I don't think its my video card neither my power supply... When i play bf2 i noticed SOMETIMES when I wait 5 mins I can play at high and 16x anti-aliazing and 16x antisotrpic without lagging but other times medium settings will start lagging ... ne ways ill try Xp , thx for help guys

I had a smiliar problem but i had an 880GTx from Asus...turns out my power supply wasn't up to snuff, so i upgraded it and problem solved...i was just ridding the limit before, so when there was a cpu bog ( u know what i mean) more power would reach the cpu then the gpu at some seconds...so it skipped, but it could also be driver issues, or crappy manufactoring of the card, who made it exactly?

I agree with this one. Give it more juice. I also agree with the GeForce comments. I saw a while back don't buy anything less than an X800 in a GeForce series, and I've seen it first hand. It's not the first number in the series that makes it any good, it's the second! I literally had a noticeable 2x increase from a 7600 to 7900. I can only imagine the same would be true for the 8000 series...

Vista is a little bit of a resource hog. Not enough to cause problems but enough to case occasional and small FPS drops like your subgesting. Maybe just drop the resolution a bit, or maybe OC your processor a notch.

Indeed it is, I agree with the two abouve posters, that card is not at all good. If your in a pickle with the prices, may i recomend a DX9 card suck as the 7900gt or the 1900xtx.Samulies

The 8600 will run any of those games maxxed out............it must be his drivers or something. He should have no problems whatsoever with BF2.

Try Windows XP first, then if it still skips check all your clock rates. Graphics Card. Cpu, Frequency on your ram. Make sure its right. How good is your PSU?
