well i would like this to last me roughly 2 to 3 years without upgrading.

is the processor sufficient or would an Intel Core 2 Duo x6800 serve me better?

any thoughts on the motherboard?

i am gettin the same sort of rig except with a Q6600 tht comp wud last u yes roughly 2 years but u might need to upgrad the grafix card like in a year and a half cuz well thts how it is new stuff jst keeps coming out. my X1300 pro used to be a mid-ranged card and its lasted me a year it was still sorta crappy then but ye urs shud easily out last mine and processor dnt really matter as much as long as its decent my proccessor E6400 @ 2.13ghz will last me abouta year longer.

and the ASUS motherboards are really good that one is good. and yes gettin tht other proccessor wud last it a bit longer but i wudnt reccommend byin an expensive proccessor mid ranged one is gd enof

Q6600 instead of the E6700 (or even an E6850 or w/e). And as others have noted that's far from mid-range. That's high-end buddeh.

Oh, and I use that motherboard. Aside from running hotter than my cpu most of the time, it overclocks very easily and it's rock solid. Good choice.

With the PSU - you can't go wrong with the Corsair HX520W or HX620W ones (just picked up my new HX620W and it's great)

yep i'll probably get a Corsair VX550W or HX520W.

looks like everything is all set except for the processor.

im rather new to all these specs and stuff, so you guys recommendthe Q6600 over the E6700?

alright ive been doing some research and imho i dont think the price difference between the Q6600 and E6700 warrants the difference in having 2 additional cores.

for now at least...

Unless you play at really high resolutions, I'm not sure if the 8800 GTX is worth twice as much as the upcoming 8800 GT, especially when the latter provides gaming performance not far behind and MUCH BETTER HD video decoding performance...then again, we should be taking those benchmarks with a grain of salt. I'd use the money saved to step it up to a Q6600, a good PSU(I'm looking at the PCP&C Silencer 610), and perhaps a cheap X-Fi card like the XtremeGamer(though I'd personally rather not splurge here until you've saved up 200 US$ for an Auzentech X-Fi Prelude).
