you have vista right, same thing happened to me to, except I caught on a little earlier.
1)right click my computer and go to properties.
2)do a disk cleanup and go to more options
3)delete the system restore and shadow copies. do a disk cleanup and you should get your space back.
4)to turn off system restore go to system, then click system protection on the left.
5)uncheck your harddrive and voila you have reclaimed your hard drive.
can i not just put all my unpartitioned sapce into c?rockstar2006
No, HDDs don't work like that, you could expand the Windows partition (but you would want to backup all files first) however, then it would be partitioned but unused so it technically wouldn't be unpartitioned space. My suggestion is to keep some of the extra space in the form of a backup partition (as in your files, not Windows stuff..that you can recover).
Unless you plan to be loading a ton of programs 50GB should be fine for now, although I don't know how many things you plan to load/store on it, so this may be inaccurate.
actually it's better to have windows on one partition and the rest of that space for your things, because if and when you get a virus or spam (knock on wood!!!) you only need to delete C and install windows again, and you're back again like nothing happened.hrah
hmm good idea, I never thought to do that :)
