Anyone else still satisfied with their Q6600? Im clocked at 3.4ghz and really dont see any major reason to upgrade? Playing all the latest games, CXF 5770's and playing everything at 1900x1200.

Only reason I'm sharing this with those who dont really care is, I see a lot of folks boasting about the i7 and of course its a monster CPU. And Passmark shows the Landslide of Performance difference.

Thing is, even with all that extra CPU - I'm not sure why I would need to upgrade? And games dont seem to really be Pushing the limits of Hardware like they used to. With the exception of Skyrim - but a little extra overclock and Im right back up there.

I'm sure I'm not alone on this? Is there a reason for an immediate CPU upgrade - atleast in terms of gaming?

Haha--My point isnt that Im happy, just seems like theres no real reason for the Extra CPU ? Q6600 just seems like an adequate CPU, even after 4years.

I guess it depends on the game too, some need more CPU beef then others. Either way it doesn't sound like you need an upgrade by the sounds of things.

I'm sure someone here is still rocking a Q6600 and can relate.

Latest games Ive played have Been Skyrim, MW3, BF3, Batman AC, Test Drive unlimited 2. No problems. Skyrim Im getting between 45 and 50-60fps.

I should say DX11 suffers quite a bit. It will run, but not as good @ 1900x1200. Im sure that has more to do with my GFX cards though. Evn with that, Im thinking its ATI's crummy drivers.

i run all my games on High, with the exception of AA&AF @ 1900x1200 resolution. And also Dont use DX11, but again, I think that has more to do my my GFX cards.

You will find alot of people on this site feel like they have to have the "best" even if they dont need it (im guessing alot are in there teens and have to show of to their mates), so they can feel like they are with the in crowd or the "i5/7 crowd", and they make out AMD chips or older intel can barely run doom or quake never mind newer games.

I max pretty much all my games pretty much all the time over 60fps only problem i seem to have at the mo is battlefield 3 freezes on anything over medium but i think thats a GPU fault as iv tried it on 2 seperate pcs with the same card.

So yea there is no need to upgrade just so you can be one of the "cool kids".

Im still rocking along with my AMD Phenom II X4, though it is overclocked at 3.7GHz. Still, I dont feel the need to upgrade and I probably wont bother untill games start demanding next generation hardware

Heck. I have a 2.8ghz Phenom II X3 720BE and it's not even overclocked. I did unlock the 4th core just for s**t and giggles. It's fine for most games maxed out at 1080p with a few exceptions: FSX, DCS: Black Shark, and ARMA2.

I can last a couple more years with it at which point I'm going Intel with the next DIY PC.

I'm also still using my Q6600 and don't really see any need to upgrade it - might get a better grapics card, but in terms of just CPU power it runs everything I've thrown at it quite happily. When you consider a Q6600 is Quad Core that will quite happily run at 3.3GHz+, that's the same as a stock i5 2500k. Now I know that they are not equal, and the 2500k will run more efficiently and faster for the same clock speeds AND that it will quite happily run beyond 4.5GHz, but Quad 3.3GHz really isn't presenting a bottleneck for gaming at present. I think the reason this CPU has held out so well is because it was *THE* CPU to get 4 years ago due to it being a great overclocker. The i5 2500k is currently *THE* CPU to get today. While SandyBridge has been mighty tempting, I will wait to see what IvyBridge brings, and decide then whether I just need a GFX card upgrade, or build a new rig.

i still have q6600@ 2.4 ghz dell desktop, couples with 8800 gts.

it could run most games fine with medium setting and 1366 x 768 resolution.

such as skyrim, sonic generation, modern warfare 3.

cpu couldn't be overclocked.

i still thnk it is still a good quad core pc like i5 2500k even though

it is slower clock for clock.

presently, i can replace my 8800 with a good directx 11 video card but i can't afford it now.

i will hold it off for a while. until then, i am still content with my pc specs and performance power.

I have a qx6700 in other rig, it'sa very large bottlneck in multi gpu systems, and it's just dreadfully slow if you have to transcode lots of videoz.

I went from getting like 30fps in f1 2011 with gtx 460 in sli, to about 120 when i went to sandy bridge. The qx6700 at 3.3ghz even bottlenecks the hd3870x2 + 3870 in this rig.

Yes I am completely satisfied with my CPU, my GPU is holding me back but even when I upgrade it I think my CPU will do the job fine.

If you are buying a new PC then it makes sense to buy the new intel CPU's so years down the line you could make the same topic about the 2500k. ;)

I use a q6600 @ 3.6ghz in my TVs rig. I built the i7 rig just for sh1ts and giggles...really though the power boost was very nice while being able to drastically reduce my case noise and heat. Want to pick up another gtx460 or 2 (anyone here know how 3way-sli 460s perform?).

I am also liking the GTX 570. For the Price it seems hard to beat...I'm actually suggesting my Brother to buy that Card for his New Build. And eventually go SLI.
The GTX 590 is Crazily expensive for my tastes. Especially when you can buy 2 570's for nearly the Same price - but would out perform that 590single.

I haven't examined the card physically but I'm assuming nvidia chopped off one of the SLI bridge adapters because it's a mid-range part? and there is 3 way (sort of) grab a gtx 460 2win...that was also on my mind, they're only 350 on ebay but I'm sure they're a heat nightmare. How well do they overclock in SLI right now I have mine at 950/1900/2000 core/shad/mem and is microstuttering that bad?

I'm still satisfied with my current setup. I also don't plan to upgrade my cpu for another few years...mainly because an upgrade would require a whole new mb and if I'm going to replace the mb, I'll might as well build a new rig.

Personally, I drove myself Crazy when I had originallyselected my Hardware.

Cause you don't want to sell yourself short on sticking to a Budget, but then again you wouldnt want to spend the Moon ona Rig either.

Seems a lot easierbuilding a Rig for someone else, since I'm not the one who's going to live with it.

Until it's been proven to do 3 460s, I wouldn't know.

Microstuttering isn't even that noticeable in my experience.

Lol, all of a sudden everybody with aged cpus pop out in one topic. I know I get decent frames but the performance seems to do the opposite. The q6700 is starting to show her age and if anything else I know my rig is getting ram starved right now thats to blame for odd dips but the 570 will have to carry its weight since I dont care about performance right now... just listening to music and kicking back to internet surfing more so than before.

I appreciate knowing that others are still satisfied with thier older hardware, and Im sure others like hearing the same too. Gives a good benchmark knowing I wont need to fork over cash for a Whole new build any time soon.

A very small part of me wouldnt mind a New build, mostly cause of the excitement of new hardware. But I'll gladly take that would be PC money and take a nice vacation in March. :)

Which texture pack are we talking about? Because the bethesda one slowed me down but didn't seem to make much difference graphically. I think my vram is limiting it though since it's random stutters rather than lower fps.

It's the same one your using. GTX 460 is known for low amount of shaders and having shadows set to high can cause stuttering. That's why I have mine set at high rather then ultra. Plus 460 @ 1920x1080 res has a hard time doing any more then 2x AA so that's where I have the cut off. If I where to use ultra shadows and AA 4x I would have frame dips or stutter.
