i have a 500w power supply... my psu can't handle the 9800+. the HD4850 has a better performance/watt ratio. the 9800+ is too big. it might not fit my case.. the 9800+ requires 2 6pin for power... if i go for the 9800+ it means i have to buy a new psu... by the way i have an E8400 processor that's why my 500psu can't handle my system with 9800+. what can you guys say? any suggestions? should i still get 9800+ together with a psu? or should i go for the HD 4850 without worrying about my psu? thanks!

Uh...Shouldn't a 9800GTX still run on a 500w? And the E8400 uses crap all power lol. I have one and the reason is because it's a 45nm chip which uses less power, hence lower temps.

And doesn't the HD4850 need a 6pin? Pretty sure it did, like all new cards nowadays need one. Either way I'd take the HD4850 since the 9800+ is just a overclocked 9800GTX. You can just overclock your HD4850 too.

Your knowledge about Psus is very limited. A quality 500 watt psu like Corsair HX520 can run 2 9800 GTXs

You dont know ethier :P you got include the right amount of 8 & 6 pin connectors needed and most psu that have the right number of them are above 700 watt even thou a good 500 watt could power them.

I think the HD4850 is better than the 9800 at least most benchmarks show that

I say yes 9800GTX should run on a 500w. The HD4850 is not so overclockable and a runs a bit hot.

If the 9800GTX+ and the HD4850 are the same price and the same speed for the most part, I would probably get the 4850 (or wait for the 4870 which is gonna rape fools), just to give ATI some help. Competition rules, and if you can get the same product for the same price from two different companies....buy the one that is from the company that is less powerful....

That's my philosophy at least.

But I might pickup the 4870 if it's as beastly as I predict it will be......

The hd 4850 runs a bit hot..But you can jack the fan settings as soon as atitool(or other) lets you. ;p

But yeahh I would take the HD 4850, you pretty much have free AA x 4. AA hardly takes a impact on the new HD 40xx series.

What's the screw holes like on the HD4850? I thought they were the same as the old 3850/70 so the old aftermarket coolers should work. I could be wrong though but I thought I read that in a review. Since I'm thinking of transferring my 8800GT/HD3850/70 cooler over. Since it has adapters to work on all of those cards.

Those reasons where pretty lame since they both draw around the same power and don't require much anyways, the 9800gtx isn't that much bigger, and finally the HD4850 requires a 6pin connector also.

A better reason would be price/performance. A 9800GTX+ is not much faster than 4850 and will cost 230$. Now you can already see rebates for the 4850 (Asus 30$ MIR, 25% discount for Visiontek at Bestbuy, ...).

I'm happy with my 4850, though I wish there were proper drivers out.

I thought that the 9800gtx+ was being predicted to be $199 ?? That would make more since because you can get a regular superclocked 9800gtx for $199 already
