My router has some issues.

I have a D-Link DIR-300 and it has technical issues. I have my router connected to my modem and I use the LAN port of the router for my PC. However I can't connect to the internet, but when I connect my PC to my modem directly, I can access the net. BTW my laptop can access wirelessly so I think the problem is in the LAN port. Any tips/solutions?

What kind of internet connection do you have?

Is it DSL? If it is DSL, you probably have PPPoE, which means you need to input a user name and password into the router.

I'm going to assume you mean DIR-330 since D-Link does not make a DIR-300.

That would be the case if he didnt just say that it works fine wirelessly. Connect your pc physically to the router and pull up your command prompt and do a ipconfig. If you get a 169.254.xxx.xxx then it is not getting an ip address from the router and the LAN port is at fault. You should be getting a 192.168.xxx.xxx with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If you are getting a 192 ip address but cant connect to the internet, try first run a ping test to the modem while connected physically to the router. This can be done in the command prompt. When you hook the pc directly to the modem, are you using the ethernet cable that runs from the modem to the router or are you using the ethernet cable that is running from the router to your pc and just disconnecting it from the router and plugging it into the modem? If you are using the cable that usually runs from the modem to the router than it could mean the cable going from the router to the pc has some crosstalk in it and needs replaced. Lastly, mac address filtering could be enabled on the router preventing your physical pc from connecting. The only way to know for sure is to log into the router and check.
